Governors race? Just saw on ABC news that that the repug running has attracted a lot of Afro-American voters, even the AA mayor of New Orleans crossed party lines and is endorsing him. Does anyone know what the Dems are doing in Louisiana to get the Dem voters out? What are the biggest issues in this race?

1. Here in New Orleans... |

...not a lot of people are putting stock into Nagin's endorsement, he's not very popular, probably a one-termer. He endorsed Randy Ewing in the Democratic primary, and he finished fifth, I believe. The biggest issues are jobs and people leaving the state. I think Blanco's going to pull it out, but it's going to be a very close call.
Later.

But don't sweat it either way.
In a funny way, the extreme right loses no matter what. If Blanco wins, the victory is obvious. If Jindal wins, he sets up a huge destructive battle down the road on Education spending. HUGE. Big enough to mabe split the GOP.

but it appears that Jindal is outspending Blanco right now. He is all over the television (has been for weeks) and I get slick, glossy, mailings from his campaign about once a week. Jindal is billing himself as "A problem solver. Not a politician", and he keeps running attack ads accusing Blanco of running attack ads. Heh.
Blanco is not as visible, but she is finally running tv commercials and focusing on Jindal's terrible record as DHH Secretary back in the 1990s. The ads should have considerable impact on senior citizens and working families who already have trouble affording medical care and prescription drugs.
IMHO, it could go either way right now. I think the election will come down to whether or not the Dems can get out the vote for Blanco. Sad to say, but if I was betting money on this one, I would put it on Jindal. I hope I'm wrong. Sen. Landrieu did manage to get out the vote and win the runoff against Terrell last December when the pundits were all expecting Terrell to win. Maybe Louisiana will come through for the Dems again. I haven't given up quite yet.
