Rumor Mill
Edited on Sun Nov-09-03 10:20 PM by Bleachers7
So I was up in NH this weekend. Here are a couple of rumors I picked up. One is solid and one is not.

The not so solid one. Edwards will drop out before NH. He will not have the support, money or resources to run there. It will not be worth it. My feeling is he could keep going until SC. He could quit after that. Then again, there may be some DNC pressure that we don't know about.

The solid one... Kucinich pissed off supporters before the Rock the Vote event in Boston. There were DNC supporters there for Kucinich. They had prepared some stuff for him. He was rude to the people that were not in his posse. This lead at least one to support another candidate.

And a note. Dean plans to flood NH with 6000 people in January.

I report, you deride (thanks Al Franken).

7. Edwards won't run for Gov
of NC, they already have a Dem Governor in there, Easley. Besides, to be honest, I don't think Edwards could win in NC anymore. He is VERY disliked there now, as North Carolinians feel he's deserted them for his Presidential bid. Add to that, NC is a very Republican state (with the exception of their Gov, but the only reason they HAVE a dem gov is because they had a VERY popular dem gov in Jim Hunt, who Easley was Lt. Gov to, so he just followed in Hunt's glory)

8. Hey its only a rumor. . .
. . .so I can't vouch for the credibility. LOL the last time I heard a political rumor was in October of 2001 and someone told me that Carol Mosely Braun would run for president. The guy who told me (worked for her when she was a Sen) was drunk as hell and it was too far fetched for me to repeat. You never know what is going to happen.

BTW I am in Chicago

16. "jewish ties"??? You make it sound like a conspiracy or somthing...
...I wonder if any of them have "ties" to the Pope???

Frankly, I could care less about their religion or heritage, so long as they were brought up well...

13. Edwards won't run for Gov, not this time
Mike Easley is governor, and he is a Democrat. It is pretty much a given that he will run again, but it could be a tough race for him. Easley doesn't get out much, as we say here. Jim Hunt was all over the place and was very popular. Easley seems to be a homebody and not much of a people person.

Edwards has pissed off a lot of hardcore Dems here by trotting around the country instead of paying attention to his home state. For instance, he was out opening campaign offices in Iowa when Pillowtex closed for good in Kannapolis, NC. It was the biggest single layoff ever, but Edwards was out of sight even while Liddy Dole was on the radio every morning talking about the office she had just opened in Kannapolis. Dems here were pretty upset over his no-show. Then there was the "will he or won't he" guessing game about his Senate seat. A lot of folks in the upper ranks of the party were not happy that he took so long to announce his intentions, thus making it difficult for others to run.

The best thing that Edwards can do right now is to give up his seat before his term ends and let Governor Easley appoint Erskine Bowles for the remainder of the term. That would give Bowles a boost before the 2004 election. Don't count on it happening though.
