Bush and Veterans
I am debating with a veteran that Bush has not been kind to veterans ever since he got elected. however, I can't seem to remember anything specific that Bush has done that would negatively effect veterans. any help would be appreciated! thanks!

2. Do not proactively mention VA benefits
Attempts to lower hazard pay. Less funding for the VA Hospitals.

Thats just off the top of my poor, drink-saddled mind. :)

4. Statement of Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon)
http://www.house.gov/defazio/110503VAStatement.shtml

<snip>

Rather than funding the VA, the Bush administration sent a memo to regional VA facilities that forbid Veterans Administration employees from proactively informing veterans about the services available to them in order to reduce the number of veterans using VA facilities. That is supportive. Is that not great?

<end snip>

There's another portion of this statement in which DeFazio states that * and DeLay are refusing to bring a measure to the House floor that has 373 sponsors, far more than a majority needed to pass it.

5. oh how the little b jerks around the veterans.
not only did he try to cut back on hostile fire pay, he is making the injured pay for meals as they recoup in the hospitals, vets are having a hard time being seen by doctor after coming back from iraq. He is also proposing to close schools and commissaries on remote bases.(#134 top ten idiots) He refuses to allow the veterans killed in action an honorable home comming (bad for re-election) Tell your friend from one vet to another bushco does not give a rats rearend about vets. or any one else for that matter.

8. I will give you two examples that are glaring...
1. bush has not been to ONE session of returning dead servicemembers.
I find it repulsive that this coward has not once, discussed those that have perished during this fiasco in Iraq or shown any sympathy for the surving families. To him, they are numbers, nothing more. This man has no soul!:nuke:

2. Many of the wounded that have returned, are kept in housing that is substandard, and have to wait for for extended periods of time for treatment. The 'Commander in Chief', can't even ensure that the proper treatment is available for those who return with wounds and Purple Hearts. He made a big stink about Jessica Lynch coming home, but that was a "good" homecoming. To mention that there are amputees heading home, is far and away a grave sin for him. It would look like there was no planning for this fiasco.:grr:

These are two of the most obvious examples. Others have been mentioned. What it comes down to, is that IMHO, this coward does not care about our servicemembers. After all, why should he? HE doesn't have to face these people! In fact, he won't even accept responsibility for their deaths and injuries.

:grr::grr::nuke:

9. Trying to remember where I saw this one...
eliminated disability benefits for retired vets. Now, you have the choice of pension or disability.

Apparently, ALL other federal agencies allow you to collect both if you are eligible.

10. Bush didn't do this one
It's been this way for over a century. Called "no concurrent receipt."

He did campaign on a promise to change it, and now won't.
