Are there teleprompters on both sides of the stage or something? I haven't seen him look down at all or anything, and that was a LONG quote he just made...
Wait...okay, after the camera pan it showed a screen, but...its not facing HIM! Its facing the audience...
Anyone know?
<Edit> Damn right it is, Syrinx!! :)

No text, just a handful of notes. "Extemporaneous speaking" is the term for it; let's see Bush do this!

Chimpy McCokespoon would just stand there and murmur some shit about September 11th. Meanwhile, the real President is as eloquent as I've ever seen him!
And they call President Gore BORING?!? :wtf:

because he deals in facts. The pundits prefer Bush because he always speaks in vague generalities.
I can't imagine Bush pulling all of these names and statistics (let alone three syllable words) out of his head. The only thing he's ever pulled out of his head is a booger.

After five minutes, even with some stuttering, he proves why he should have the Democratic Presidential nomination and the Presidency.

and precious little doubt that he could beat Bush. But I wonder if he wants to put himself and his family through the same crap that went on in 2000.
Imagine being called a liar throughout the campaign, only to be vindicated by a victory in the popular vote, and then losing by dubious means in the Electoral College. It's got to hurt. Perhaps it has turned him off of Presidential politics (for the time being, at least).
Who knows? I certainly don't, but judging from Gore's comments in interviews, I would imagine that is his reason for not running next year.

That was *the* greatest speech I've ever heard! He nailed it, every point. How many times did he refer to Orwell?
syrinx9999, I don't think I thanked you enough! Thank you thank you! Now I'm off to get the transcript. I have to save it.

You drive a hard bargain. I very much wanted President Gore to run for reelection. It broke my heart when he decided not to. But he's clearly working hard to change things, and his decision seems final. It's too late to change his mind, for 2004.
So I'm leaning Clark, tho' it's early. I'd be up for Clark/Dean (Pres/VP) or Clark/Kuchinich. I think that's my best offer. But thank you for coming to the table.

Edited to remove remark that made me seem like a moron. Please, let's say no more about it.

Phenomenal! I rode on the same plane (out of D.C.) with him once; he was in first class while I was in coach, but still it was the same friggin' plane!!
Anyway, RW'ers think that facts are boring because they require you to study / contemplate / analyze, therefore anyone who can recite facts and provide a narrative for those facts must be boring too, and has too much book learnin'. They don't go for the elitist concept of education. Well, at least that's what their degreed leaders tell the ignorant followers... they're easier to control when they're under-educated. They don't know enough to ask questions.

We have some impressive candidates but he is head and shoulders above everyone! He kept mentioning "1984," but seeing him up there and AWOL in the White House made me think of "Alice Through the Looking Glass." Everything truly is upside down and reverse.

I saved you guys the trouble of seeing what the FReepers thought of the speech.
Their comments were mostly:
"Blah blah communist blah blah treason blah blah thank God for Bush blah blah Islamists have no rights blah blah Second Amendment blah blah terror blah blah democRAT blah blah thank God he wasn't president, imagine the mess we would be in."
Well, I have said it before and I will say it as often as I have to:
If Al Gore had actually been allowed to serve his term as President, there would have been no 9/11. The government wouldn't have needed it to happen.
