"Senator" Al Franken????
Nov. 17 issue — Arnold Schwarzenegger’s victory is prompting talk that a new wave of celebs will enter politics, among them Dennis Miller, George Clooney—and now Al Franken.

"Republicans always say, ‘How dare Susan Sarandon and Martin Sheen get involved in politics!’ ” Franken tells NEWSWEEK. “Then Arnold showed up and it was ‘Oooh! Arnold’s running! Oooh! The Terminator!’ Well, ‘F’ you!”

1. I'm not sure if he'll make in MN
I hate to say it, but Paul was recognized as "one of us", while I think most people would see Franken more of a NYC guy. I wish we weren't so parochial, but that's how it goes up here sometimes.

Anytime his name comes up on local TV that gets mentioned.

He can run against Coleman in 2008. Wouldn't that be fun? :bounce:

edited for typing

2. I like celebrities where they are
Clooney would never run for public office, and he's said so many times. Al's a favorite of mine, but I have a hard time seeing him run for senator. Besides, I like him as a writer.

7. I heard him this am on Democracy Now
and he was great!

I did not like him on SLN, but he's really stepping up to the plate in ways that Dems MUST do. He's standing up to the fascist talking heads on Fox etc. in a way that Dems have not been doing...

Hey, could be a lot worse than Sen. Al Franken

10. Dayton is up for reelection in 2006
But that weasel Coleman comes up in 2008. Of course, there's always the 3rd district house seat (among others)
