Anyone want to help me burn this straw man? |
|
I just saw one of the most ludicrous arguments I think I've ever seen posted here in GD.
Ths basic gist of it was that we are being hypocrites if we support Affirmative Action but are against foreign outsourcing. The lack of logic is mind-blowing...
Can I borrow your zippo?

1. Okay, maybe I'm missing something, but isn't |
|
affirmative action meant to address unadmitted societal prejudice, while international outsourcing is meant to line the pockets of fat cats by allowing them to exploit a foreign nation's population by paying them a lower wage in an evironment that isn't as rigidly regulated for safety and environmental concerns, while still benefitting from tax breaks, subsidies, and other forms of corporate welfare here in the goold 'ole U. S. of A.?

reading those couple of threads in which this arguement was thrown up made my Stink-O-Meter go off.
I don't smoke, so can't offer the Zippo -- but I know a couple of Bay Area Duers who have lighters to SPARE. :)

:hi:
I was getting a little ticked off yesterday by a certain nameless DUer who seemed to think that outsourcing was the greatest human achievement since fire... been alot of that lately, apparently...
but you have to love the arguemnt that sending American jobs to people overseas is good for American jobs :eyes:

4. I find it to ridiculous for comment. |

The issues are not related in any way. It's no different then the gun nuts trying to compare gun deaths with auto wrecks. Same faulty logic.

5. It's impossible to take that argument seriously |
|
I don't even think it's an argument or a position, I think it's just a smear to distract from the corporate power and outsourcing issue.
It's on the level of Rush Limbaugh.

7. It is not our government's job ... |

.... to make sure that workers in other countries are treated fairly. It's their job to make sure workers in OUR country are treated fairly.

That's like saying you're hypocrite because you like oranges, but you feel typewriters should be banned.
Doesn't make any sense, does it?
