Could bigotry help the Democrats in Louisiana? |
|
The Republican candidate for governor in LA, Bobby Jindal, is of Indian (that is, the nation of India) nationality. The Democratic candidate is an anti-abortion woman, Lt. Gov. Kathleen Blanco. This is the question: will Confederate flag waving, Bible thumping, racist white people who make up the base of the Louisiana Republican Party vote for a South Asian for governor, even if he is a Republican? Or will their bigotry keep them at home on election day, or maybe even vote for Blanco?

1. I have good contacts in LA |

and believe it or not, it doesn't SEEM to be a factor yet. But you never know.
We'll have to see. My guess is that if Jindal loses by more than 5 points, bigotry is a factor. If he loses a close race or wins, it won't be.

2. Jindal is a "Jesus Freak" (Catholic) who is getting support... |

from white religious conservatives. This will be a tight race and Jindal could win. :puke:

3. You think he could have run as a Hindu? |

My take: Jindal is a sharp opportunist who will be around for a while. I watched him debate Blanco, and he fairly well kicked her ass. I hate to say it, but he's smart and quick thinking, whereas Blanco looked and sounded half-asleep. Look for Jindal in the senate by 2012.
