The New Republic gives Kerry a "D" in intellectual honesty
SHORT-TERM MEMORY LOSS?
by Michael Crowley

Candidate: John Kerry
Category: Intellectual Honesty
Grade: D

John Kerry changes his opinion for expediency about Mr. Change-Your-Opinion-for-Expediency:

MR. RUSSERT: Your campaign manager is quoted as follows: "Howard Dean is a very crafty, very calculating politician." Do you agree?

SEN. KERRY: I don't want to make any characterizations. I wish my campaign were not making characterizations of people publicly and I don't like that.
-- NBC's "Meet the Press," August 31, 2003

In an hourlong interview on a public radio program in Concord on Wednesday, Mr. Kerry, who two months ago publicly chastised his campaign manager for assailing Dr. Dean, again and again turned questions about his own views into attacks on Dr. Dean, until his host finally politely asked that Senator Kerry use his time to talk about Senator Kerry.

I'm hoping for a Dean/Clark ticket.

2. When are they going to learn
That Democrats cannot and should not let themselves be "handled" by the morans on K Street.

That crap works on republican voters...not us.

3. The New Republic hates everyone
Their staff is filled with Neo-Conservatives. Jonathan Chait is one of them. They also have Andy Sullivan, the gay libertarian that says there is no need for the AIDS movement.

As you noticed, they give everyone poor numbers -- except Liberman. So don't be exploiting this as well. I have seen them give out poor numbers for Dean, Kerry, Clark, and Edwards.

If you click here, you will find out that Liberman won the TNR primary last month.

I believe their rankings are "wholly without merit"

11. Agreed
I don't pay any attention to TNR. And their pimping of Lieberman is laughable.

14. Also Lawrence Kaplan
who wrote the Iraq book, with Kristol, is also an editor. This chickenhawk just couldn't handle it when both Bob Novak and Paul Begala turned out to be against the Iraq invasion, when they had the bad taste to invite him on Crossfire. What a whiny excuse for a man.

Too bad we can't put him in uniform, and send him over to the Sunni Triangle, to defend the invasion he pimped for.

Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 12:55 AM by cindyw
Can we move on or do we have to start a stupid war on all the bad grades Dean has gotten from TNR?

8. Yeah, seriously
Dean supporters whine when TNR publishes anti-Dean tripe... yet they're a credible source on Kerry? Speaking of intellectual honesty...

15. The New Republic gives everybody a D
I've been following this regular "feature" in TNR for the past several issues, and it's real stupid. Just about every Dem candidate has gotten a D or an F over some imagined failure that amounts to nothing. Don't take it seriously.

17. TNR sucks
Often, buried deep within an article, there are little gems to be uncovered but other than that, it's a rag. I give their "report cards" on the candidates an D-.

19. Kerry is doing our country a huge favor by getting the truth out there now
If the Dems put up a candidate who the Republicans can easily paint as a "flim-flam" man in the general election, the Democratic party will lose it's ability to effectively challenge the corruptness of the Bush administration and we'll see even more Democrats re-register as independents.

23. Kerr'y doing a GREAT jorb!
at looking like an ass. But, like Kucinich, he has decided to make howard dean the focus of the primaries. Thanks, John! Never thought you would have given up on your own message so quickly! Can't wait to see what kind of an ass you look like when you have to work with him.

20. Some of the stupidest junk ever done in TNR
The "TNR Primary" is always fairly dumb. Don't let it bother you. Note that there is no place in it for George W. Bush to get a grade of any kind. It's biased and dumb and biased toward dumb.

21. Fuck it, I'm moving from Kerry's columun to Clark or Dean
Campaign manager firing, foot in mouth disease, death of a thousand cuts here, I can't honestly cling to his bid any more.
As much as I've admired him, his past votes and position too many blunders for too long.
Clark got in late but he's doing way better and LEARNING from the mistakes.

Sorry Kerry, I'll keep your site bookmarked but enough's enough. Good Luck.

22. Kerry went after Dean on POLICY, and Dean's changing positions.
Those biased against Kerry call them attacks. Did Kerry LIE about Dean's positions? If he did then he was attacking, if he didn't then they were pointing out discrepancies in the positions.

24. LOL
Yeah, BLM, it's all policy. Which is why everything is 8-10 years old.

It's just so funny that three months ago ALL criticism was a slam (like Kerry's IWR vote), and now we're making up these intricate distinctions.

It was a Kerry supporter who told me that ALL criticism is attack. It was because of the flak Kerry was getting for HIS RECORD. I asked for clarity. I said, if it's HONEST it isn't an attack, and was shot down. Now the Kerry camp has, uh, Flim Flammed? Is that the word you guys like to use? A complete 180. Now that Kerry's on the offensive, we have to change our definitions so that we look less like hypocrites!

Gawd. You guys are a source of neverending humor.

And yes, Kerry is LYING. He's making Dean out to be something he isn't.

"Mr. Change-his-position-for-political-expediency"....

Does that little Kerryism ring a bell?
