"Dated Dean, Married Kerry" |
|
from my perspective, as someone who's worked in advertising for the past 8 years, this seems like a really dumb "slogan" for the Kerry campaign to be pushing.
it's a lot more likely to get someone to consider Dean than it is to get someone to switch to Kerry.

It is appealling to those people that are angry at Bush, but want someone that can actually beat him.
Which is a larger number than you'd like to think.

4. I don't think it is acurate to say that the campaign devised this slogan |
|
It is a certain phenomena in the support base of Kerry supporters where people were woken back up to politics by Dean, but when they studied the candidates choose Kerry on his ideas and his record.
You should see some of the men I dated before I married my wonderful husband.

It plays right into Dean's comeback that Kerry is obsessed with him.
Never mention the opposition's name in your slogans, unless it's all about them, imho. When you put your name up there with them, you are giving them free publicity (i.e.: "just spell my name right") and making it about your fight with X, rather than about how great you are. I don't see how it's going to appeal to Dean supporters, either.

9. maybe they should try another slogan |
|
How about: slept with Bush, ran off with Nader. Married Kerry, divorced later... shacked up with Sharpton, danced with Clark civil unioned with Leiberman, and went home alone.

10. Why would any woman marry Kerry over Dean? |
|
Dean is a fantastic husband and father and he sounds like much more of a help around the house than Kerry could ever be.

Why try to swipe supporters from anybut numero uno? If Kerry were doing better, it'd be his supporters that people were trying to get.
...still a cheesy slogan, though...

Kerry lost the initiative. This will not get it back for him. If he designs his campaign on mentioning Dean all the time, he will only highlight the good doctor more.
The good doctor only profits when his name is mentioned. Howard Dean has worked hard not to be ignored, as this is the more or less natural fate of an ex Govenor from Vermont. The more Kerry pays attention to him, the bigger Dean seems.
