Chris Matthews' Week on Iraq... |
|
Watching Chris Matthews'show yesterday, one could not help but think he was attempting to help George W Bush with his "good news" campaign out of Iraq. He had MSNBC reporter, Bob Arnot, walking around Mosul and Baghdad with his camera. One might get the impression that the fruit stands and "juice stores" were recent inventions, only since the Americans came to town?
But, one could also see that Baghdad was, in many ways, a modern city. Which would make it much more difficult to invade and occupy, because propaganda and military occupation may not work as well in a modern society as it might in a backward village in some third world country. This could be the reason American troops are having such a difficult time in and around Baghdad?
Matthews will spend his entire week on the Iraq war story. It might be interesting to see how it progresses the rest the week. From the start, it appears he is operating from Bush's political agenda. Perhaps I am wrong in this perspective?

1. What I haven't seen a lot of, even on DU is this.... |
|
Were there no schools BEFORE we invaded? Was there no electricity BEFORE we invaded? Were there no hospitals BEFORE we invaded?
Why should it be considered good news that we did this but then repaired what we did?

they talk about how they got electricity running in Baghdad so quickly while skipping the point that they knocked it out.

7. I don't watch Tweety at all! |
|
I watched him for the last time, October 6th, the night before the California recall election. Tweety is a lying son of a bitch. He made such a big todo about the driver's license issue, about how Governor Davis was blatantly cowtowing for the Hispanic vote, never pointing out that several other states do the same thing, that it was passed by the legislature, and that there are good reasons(such as having insurance with a valid license). If I have any basic honesty myself, I will never watch the POS again. I wont miss much truth. Truth is but an infrequent, uninvited guest on Tweety's show.

Lots of photos of cafes open, smiling locals, nightclubs entertaining Germans, happy fraternization.

9. I couldn't help but notice how |
|
Arnot seemed very nervous and skittish - I was almost expecting a bomb or blast to go off and I had the distinct feeling Arnot was thinking the same thing. Showed all the shops - yet NO ONE was shopping in them.

I had to laugh, Tweety started off real serious-like, said we're going to cut the shit this week and get the REAL story. Looked real sincere.
Then the first person he goes to is none other than Dr. Baghdad Bob Arnot. I give him credit for interviewing the ridiculous propaganda master with a straight face.

11. Tweety is a whore in the truest sense. He'll assume any position |
|
Unless he just gets carried away with self-righteousness, like his hatred of Clinton and his early oppostion to Iraq, Mathews seems to do what he's told on MSNBC, which Microsoft (Don't-Bust-My-Trust) and GE (Keep-That-Military-Spending-Rolling) have driven hard to the right. Mathews was much more "liberal" in his old SF Chronicle column and on his NBC Sunday show.
