Soros's Deep Pockets vs. Bush
Financier Contributes $5 Million More in Effort to Oust President

George Soros, one of the world's richest men, has given away nearly $5 billion to promote democracy in the former Soviet bloc, Africa and Asia. Now he has a new project: defeating President Bush.

Soros believes that a "supremacist ideology" guides this White House. He hears echoes in its rhetoric of his childhood in occupied Hungary. "When I hear Bush say, 'You're either with us or against us,' it reminds me of the Germans." It conjures up memories, he said, of Nazi slogans on the walls, Der Feind Hort mit ("The enemy is listening"). "My experiences under Nazi and Soviet rule have sensitized me," he said in a soft Hungarian accent...

4. There Was A Great Article About This in a recent Fortune magazine
which basically has Soros saying that Bush has single-handedly ruined this country and he wants him OUT.

I believe the article stated that he has contributed $10 million to the Democratic Party to defeat Chimpy.

Hooray for George. He knows a dictator when he sees one.

5. He was our best kept secret!

If anyone gets a chance, go to PBS' website and search for his name. There's a link to an interview in which he talks about his efforts to assist various countries in their quest for democracy. Meanwhile, our own government has armed, trained and/or funded any right wing government, or insurgents trying to topple left leaning, democratically elected leaders of other countries, e.g., Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala, Nicaraugua, Chile, etc.

Including the $5 million pledged to MoveOn.org, to date he's donated $15.5 million to the Democrats' push against *.

.::Link to WAPO::.
..."America, under Bush, is a danger to the world," Soros said. Then he smiled: "And I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is."

...Asked whether he would trade his $7 billion fortune to unseat Bush, Soros opened his mouth. Then he closed it. The proposal hung in the air: Would he become poor to beat Bush?

He said, "If someone guaranteed it."

6. I Understand There Was Something On CNBC
that stated he had pledged $10M but MoveOn needed to match the funds. Now, that may be $5M out of his pocket and the rest from MoveOn members. There is still nothing coming from MoveOn on this but I suspect they are getting the wheels greased to start another campaign to raise the money. It's a good plan and I support it. $10M will go a long way to fight Shrub. Maybe now they can take up the BBV issue too.

7. I got an Email today from Moveon that mentions it...
I think it's ok to post it in full so:

Dear MoveOn member,
It's only been three weeks since we launched our $10 million grassroots fundraising campaign. In that time, over 70,300 people have pitched in to run ads that highlight President Bush's failed policies. If all the checks come in, together we've given a whopping $3.6 million.

That's why this campaign to expose President Bush has attracted the attention of some heavy hitters. Today, George Soros and Peter Lewis, two of the country's leading philanthropists, have announced their strong support of our effort. They've pledged to match every dollar given by those of us in the grassroots with 50 cents of their own. In other words, if we raise $10 million, they'll put in another $5 million.

Politicians, pundits, and the press are watching this effort closely to see what happens. President Bush is raking in millions in $2,000 checks. For the first time, we're in a position to show that small donors working in partnership with the big ones can counterbalance the influence of rich Republicans. We can do it, but we'll have to dig deep and bring in more people.

Please help however you can. Remember, every dollar you give today will be matched with 50 cents from George Soros and Peter Lewis. You can give online at the links below:

By credit card:
https://www.moveonvoterfund.org/donate/creditcard.html?id=2110-3172354-6YyulHYVN9ZoD65mhbwqaw

By check:
https://www.moveonvoterfund.org/donate/check.html?id=2110-3172354-6YyulHYVN9ZoD65mhbwqaw
(Check contributions cost us processing time and money, so credit card contributions are preferred if possible.)

Your gift won't just help run ads. In the next week, we'll also be launching a great new PR campaign to make sure the ads' message gets free news coverage all across the country. We'll do this the MoveOn way -- engaging hundreds of local volunteers to hold press conferences and talk to reporters about the effect of President Bush's policies in our communities.

Together, we're changing the way politics works. Thanks for being a part of it.

Sincerely,
--Carrie, Eli, James, Joan, Noah, Peter, Wes, and Zack

11. It's not just Soros
It's all the people who have joined MoveOn, and the people who have given contributions to political campaigns...maybe 20 bucks at a time.

Soros has enough clout to get media attention, because American media, of course, values money and those who make it more than the combined people who make up democracy.

More and more people seem to be willing to acknowledge that the Bushovics are fascists.

That's a good sign, to me.

It's like admitting that someone you know is an alcoholic and needs help.

12. But this
Will be the turning point. MoveOn is VERY potent, I will NOT deny that they played a huge role, but now we've got LARGE amounts of cash to throw around! This gives us a LOT of play for defeating Bush!

13. Soros
Soros is a capitalist who has no problem with making about $1 billion in a couple of days shorting tumbling Third World currencies , but he has for a long time been concerned about what he calls the excesses of capitalism.

He was also once partners with a guy named Jim Rogers, an eccentric
free-market enthusiast who has driven around the word twice, and written two books about his sometimes harrowing experiences. His thesis is that unless you are on the ground talking to cab drivers, drunk underpaid border guards, black market currency traders and prostitutes, you can't really know anything about a country. He is an unapologetic free trader, but his free trade stance also includes the more radical component of open borders and free labor markets, so it's not just capital and goods that can move, but people. He hates the IMF and the World Bank, but supports the WTO and knows the differences between the three. He thinks Bush et. al. are full of shit, primarily for their aggressive ignorance of the world.

I'm sure Soros has read his books and knows his views. Basically, I get the impression they are both smart rich guys who have reason to be disgusted by the cynicism, yahoo-pandering, military showboating, cronyism, bible-thumping and basic disgustingness of the current administration. In the same spirit that led Jim Jeffords to bolt the party, they might easily be natural economic Republicans but can't stomach dangerous, vicious policies masquerading as "spreading democracy", and they both know enough about the world to know that the Bush agenda is doomed to failure, sooner rather than later.

As far as I know, Soros is the only one of them putting up dough to get rid of Bush. He actually hinted that he would give all of his 7 billion dollars if a Bush defeat could be somehow guarenteed.....
