They're Getting Close: The long arm of the law may finally have Enron...
Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 02:58 PM by mirandawright
For almost two years one question has dogged every corporate crime-watcher in the U.S.: Will Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling, the men who ran Enron, ever be hauled off in handcuffs? Many thought that day would never come—in mid-October, a New Yorker story by Jeffrey Toobin was headlined: "Why the country's most notorious executives may never face criminal charges."

But then, on Oct. 30, the government scored a major victory when a former top executive named David Delainey, a 37-year-old Canadian, pled guilty to a criminal count of insider trading and agreed to forfeit $8 million he'd reaped from selling Enron stock.

2. Won't happen - Lay and Skilling walk
I would be shocked if they actually faced charges - or, they are charged prior to the 2004 election (so as to help Bush), and the charges are dismissed if he wins (with Diebold's help, he will). You heard it here first. At any rate, they walk, one way or the other.

3. They're Getting Even Closer
As we speak, Lea Fastow is plea bargaining a 5-Month prison sentance to allow her to stay with the children when her husband is sentanced.

Also, Ken Lay is turning over an additional 870 pages of "personal" papers this week after a 2 year fight to keep them from federal prosecutors.

It's looking bad for the thieves of Enron.
