Jeffrey Davis...brother of slain councilman... |
|
James Davis just interviewed outside city hall in New York bringing up a very serious question..."how could this have happened at city hall? My brother was a victim of the system". He is very right...and can't say as I blame him...ANGRY!

people on Nostrand Ave are crying. Councilman James Davis, a Brooklyn Democrat, also complains about threats made by the mayor.
“I was there to hear him make a threat at Gracie Mansion. And the mayor made it clear that there would be retribution against people who voted against the property tax hike,” Davis said, adding, “that would campaign against us.” http://www.brooklynskyline.com/news_article.asp?na=282

chilled me to the bone, thanks for sharing the link. It helps shed some light for those of us who know nothing about the situation or about the politics going on there.

5. That article has some disgusting info about Council Speaker Miller |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 04:30 PM by BurtWorm
who happens to be a Democrat:
Last Wednesday, Jennings and Davis were among three councilmen punished by Miller for voting against the 18.5 percent property tax hike.
Jennings was thrown off the powerful Finance Committee and Davis was removed from the Cultural Affairs Committee. Jennings also complained that their parking permits were been withheld as a punishment.
“I’m not going to forget his actions towards me when he runs for mayor,” Davis said of Miller.
“He basically said to us, ‘It’s a dictatorship’ and that we will be punished if we vote democracy, if we vote our opinions, if we vote the opinion of our constituents,” Davis said. “It’s absolutely outrageous for him to punish elected officials who voted the will of the people.”
“They’re not going to stop me because they removed me from a committee,” he said.

9. sounds like business as usual to me |

The link in FooBar's post talks about Mayor Bloomberg threatening and punishing city council members who voted against his wishes and funneling campaing funds to those who toe the line.
How is this different from what the Bush administration is doing? They are trying to ruin Senator Durbin's good name and get him thrown off the Senate Intelligence Committee, they pulled out all the stops to get Cynthia McKinnley out of office and don't forget about Senator Wellstone.
The DLC and New Democrats do the same things too. You have to prove your record and promise to vote as told to join the New Democrats. Once you're in there's all sorts of campaign money shoveled your way.
Chicago - the Daley machine - 'nuf said.
We NEED real campaign finance reform, although there will still be evil rich men and greedy spineless wimps for them to buy.
