The break up of the USSR: Be careful what you wish for
Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 10:07 PM by loudnclear
"The former Soviet republic of Georgia is sliding towards chaos. The embattled President Eduard Shevardnadze has fled the capital, and opposition activists have threatened to seize power."

"Late on Sunday he received a pledge of support from Russia's President Vladimir Putin. But the US, which has traditionally backed Mr Shevardnadze's rule, is said to be reconsidering its stance as it weighs reports of electoral cheating."

(The destablization of the balkans and other USSR sattelites is a direct outcome of the break up of the USSR. The real danger about all of this is what ever happend to all those WMDs that were being stored in the various former USSR sattelite countries? This area is a real powder keg just waiting to blow. If there are any deals with al-Qaeda or if there is any black-market deals with terrorists all bets are off. I think this is only the tip of the iceberg.)
