Surprise -- the war's over
The death of 22 Italians this morning is apparently an accident, according to the official Coalition Provisional Authority website which claims that the regime of Saddam Hussein was defeated in April:

http://www.cpa-iraq.org/

Among other goodies you will find at this DOD prop are a Ramadan message from George Bush (he says, "Welcome to Your Own Country!" in Arabic), the claim that Saddam prevented deregulated Iraqi banks from doing international business in the 90's (it didn't have anything to do with those sanctions) a link to a an Army PSYOPS website that admits:

"A theory that information influences people, such as in advertising, provides the philosophy behind ISC efforts. “It’s one thing to get people to do what you want,” said (Deputy Chief-Army Information Support Cell)Evans. “We take that a step further, getting people’s cooperation while making them think it’s their idea.”

And Paul Bremer's Ramadan address to the Iraqi people:

"There is dignity in striving to restore the peace and wisdom and beauty which have marked the Land Between two Rivers, the cradle of civilization.

There is no dignity in one of my stormtroopers pinning you to the ground with his jackboot."

(OK, so the second one is courtesy wtmusic)

1. Good thing, too, cuz the war was getting so boring
and like crowding out Ah-nold and Laci and Kobe and all the things that really matter.

Your little wind-blown clouds,
your thin wisps of clouds,
your great masses of clouds
replete with living waters,
you will send forth to stay with us.
Your fine rain caressing the earth...
Send forth your massed clouds to stay with us,
stretch out your water hands,
let us embrace!

-- Zuni prayer for rain
