Dems vs Repubs political donation map
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 11:49 AM by ShimokitaJer
This is an interesting map of where political donations come from -- you can also set it to show you an individual candidate's donations, but the link here is to D vs R by county.

http://www.fundrace.org/moneymap.php?cand=RepVDem&zoom=County

I was particularly surprised at the look of the south. Texas, Georgia, and Florida gave pretty strongly to Bush, but there are some splits in the other southern states, at least as far as donations go.

--on edit--

Thanks to whoever posted the link to this parent site Fundrace.org yesterday. It's very informative.

3. His campaign just isn't catching on...
I'm not an Edwards supporter though, so I can't give you a whole lot of detail...

20. Psst. Blue is Dem. Edwards is doing better in NC and SC than Clark and Ho.
Look at the state by state map. Edwards is darker green in NC and SC than either of them.

If Edwards isn't catching on in those states, than you better call the coroner for Clark and HoHo.

21. We were talking about Dem vs Repub donors
and there were far more Repub than Dem donors in SC, despite Edwards "native son" status. If you compare his individual stats to Bush's, you can see that Edwards beats him in NC, but Bush wins out in SC.

We're not trying to start a "this candidate is unelectable" thread here -- just looking at the numbers.

4. Probably a good indication of how the yard signs and tv ads will
go.

I agree it's very interesting to see something beyond solid red or blue states.

9. Can this be right?
My long ago home county in Pennsylvania is dark blue??? There's no way! Unless like one wealthy person there gave one large donation, I don't see how it's possible!

11. Check
The individual candidates (from the pull-down menu at the top). Looks like Dean, Kerry and Gephardt have been getting some support from PA.

15. It would have to be one extremely wealthy person per county
since every dollar given to Bush would subtract from the total for the Democrats for that county.

One other thing we should remember: since equal donations to Dem and Repub would even out to white, and since Bush has more money from large donors, we might be able to count on more actual Dem votes in some of those seemingly neutral areas. Just sheer speculation there, but it's heartening.

12. In NC
since the last two governors have been Dems and democratic voter numbers have been holding steady or increasing, is that in general elections for president (about 10% difference) has been that Independents have swung the vote to the repubs. These Independents tend to be economic conservatives.

13. Fascinating map!
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 12:17 PM by Snellius
Especially the breakdown by candidate. Two observations that standout is (1) how strong but regional Dean's support is and (2) how Republican Florida has become. Not really much good news here but the map is strategically invaluable.

...isn't going over very well in the Dakotas or Utah.

He got at least some money from every other state. Fascinating.

"Wyomans for Al" ???

EVERYBODY got good cash from...DC

Neat map, thanks!

19. If Dems win every state in which they lead in fundraising....
...including the two in which they're tied (IL and PA) then they win the race by 4 EVs (presuming Hawaii goes Dem and Alaska goes Rep).
