23. No
not if military objectives were targeted. Targeting civilians may do it. I've always had a problem with the fire-bombing of Berlin, for example. But then, in total war, you do go after the infrastructure. That's not what the Palestinian terrorists are doing.

3. Terrorism is any resistance or opposition to bush or sharon regimes

Some countries still need some more persuading to sign off on having this in writing in a UN resolution but that is the actual practice.

bush decreed, "you are with us or you are with the terrorists," astonishing millions, who until that moment had thought terrorism was a BAD thing.

9. its a definition in flux
ter·ror·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tr-rzm)
n.
The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.
dictionary.com

originally it meant ununiformed individuals attacking civilian targets for political purposes.

now you will see the term used to describe the attack on the USS Cole, attacks on US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan etc. Actually, these cases are not terrorism, when the target is military. I guarantee you that if you ask a US serviceman if he is fighting terrorists even he will tell you the honest answer, that those who fight against any military are not terrorists. Is it possible that some of the people who are fighting US troops are also terrorists who would attack peaceful civilian targets? Absolutely. But this administration has redefined terrorist at every turn, using it interchangeably with words like "guerilla", "drug user", "drug dealer" and "high school student in S.C.".

15. I can tell you what...........
terrorism is for me TODAY. I just got a letter from my employer informing me that I am no longer eligible to receive health benefits thru them. So, here I am, with an 87y/o blind mother that I care for and I'm disabled from MS. For me today, that is terrorism. And I'm far from being alone in this situation. There are alot out there just like me and what are we gonna do? I think bush wants us all to die. I really do.

18. This is from my Foreign Policy Textbook:
"Terrorism is an act or threat of an act of tactical violence by a group of trained individuals, having international linkage, to achieve political objective. This group could be sponsored by state or non-state agencies"

19. FBI
The FBI describes terrorism as either domestic or international, depending on the origin, base, and objectives of the terrorists:

• Domestic terrorism is the unlawful use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States or its territories without foreign direction committed against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

• International terrorism involves violent acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or any state, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or any state. These acts appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion, or affect the conduct of a government by assassination or kidnapping. International terrorist acts occur outside the United States or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to coerce or intimidate, or the locale in which the perpetrations operate or seek asylum.

22. terrierism is:
The use of 1000's of terriers to covertly supplant human government. Given that terriers are actually aliens that can control human minds easily, terriers have taken over the white house with Barney, "The real king" scottie dog.

Terriers have taken over completely, yet how the president is now a dog-servant is little known. Mind control and doggie biscuts are the primary objective. Later, free roaming and pooping for all dogs. ;-)

However terrorism is simply the use of force to instill fear and repression. State terroism is the sharon-hitler-bushavik axis and non-state terrorism is them also, acting with puppets they created. The head number 1 terrorist is Barney and his minion.

26. I'd say it's the use of violence or the threat of violence against
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 04:25 PM by Cat Atomic
civilians to achieve a political or idealogical goal.

Using that definition, the US was engaging in terrorist acts when it told the Iraqi people they could prevent an invasion by taking care of Hussein themselves, or when the Afghans were told the same thing about bin Laden.

So I think there's also a caveat added onto the definition by most people. It's 'the use of violence or the threat of violence by any NON-STATE to achieve a political or idealogical goal'. But then even that goes out the window when the administration starts talking about Iran, Syria, Iraq, etc... where state-supported terrorism is the supposed enemy.

So I guess, these days, "terrorist" just means, "not helping the Bush Administration dominate pretty much everything".
