If it weren't for Liberia... |
|
If it weren't for Liberia, the spin just might wash.
That we are a freedom loving people out to save the world from ruthless dictators.
Which is why Iraq was invaded. It wasn't oil, or even WMD's as one Congressman said today. No, we have to get past that. It's because we love liberty, and want to liberate people from tyranny and brutality. Yeah, that's it.
If people weren't dying on the streets of a former American colony right now, suffering at the hands of a "ruthless dictator", victims of gueilla warfare from two separate factions, they might get away with playing the "big brother to the world" card.
Of course that's what Liberians are asking, where is big brother now?

3. There's oil in Liberia too |
|
Actually, it is just of shore, but there is about 60 billion barrels of it.
You may have missed it, but there was a coup d'tat on the tiny island of Sao Thome last week. Sao Thome is right in the middle all of that oil. The lawfully elected government of Sao Thome consisted primarily of former marxists. How convenient.
