Of all the POW's why is she the "Chosen One"? Has any other POW been as marketed as her in American history?

For her to recieve a hero's status and all that came with it is a phoney as the system that pinned her up! The book depicting the bamboozle has flopped to say the least. But what I understand is, that she made a million upfront for the fiction. The poor sales may reflect the disgust of the American public and all the lies this vile, odious machiine has imposed on the public

The myth of Jessica Lynch has to do with American womanhood under attack by dark-skinned brutes. The Bush administration won't say that, but I suspect that's their implication.
It's "US vs. THEM" all over again, and PFC Lynch is a potent symbol of that.

5. Shoshana Johnson was female too |
|
Was she given the shaft because she was black? I believe race played a role, but I am not certain how big a role it played. Where were the denounciations against this "separate but equal" treatment of female POW's?

7. Why didn't anyone protest this? |
|
That disparity presented a perfect opportunity to convince "Middle America" about the existence of subtle racism, IMO.

This kind of subtle racism exists every day. I agree that in a decent society it would be protested immediately, but since this is the norm it's hard for people to get upset about. Upset to the point of protest anyways.

And is she from West Virginia, a key Democratic state Bush won in 2000 to help steal the election?

You can't very well scare people at home into supporting the war by saying, "Look, those darkies are attacking our innocent black women," can you? No, you have to say, "Look, those darkies are attacking our poor innocent white women!"
It is very much a racially-motivated story.

10. Is the general public that dumb, though? |
|
Are they dumb enough to increase their support for a war because of what happened to one woman as a result of an elective war?

If I remember it right, the others came back in groups, so their identities were lost in the news flood.

You must be right. Racism had nothing to do with it. It was just a timing thing. If Shoshana had been released first, then she'd be the one all over TV and magazines.

Not to take from Jessica Lynch, but it's a shame to watch our media/gov in action sometimes.
