If The Iraq War Keeps Getting Worse |
|
Do you believe it might discourage Bush and Co. to reconsider their plans to continue their militaristic approach to solving problems in the M.E. ?
Or do you think that they will just insist on getting 'tougher' so that they can try to outlast the resistance.

If there's one thing that rightwing lunatics do with religious passion, it's repeat their mistakes. They will try this kind of stunt until it "works".

2. I think Bush is in deep shit |

Half a year later, Iraq isn't more secure, it's unstable.
The Red Cross is pulling out. Soldiers are coming back in body bags, a pair or three at a time daily it seems. At this rate if status quo is maintained, there will be around 600 more dead US soldiers by next year's election and unfortunately, the families suffering those losses are middle America, the voter base Bush is counting on. As a whole, the American people will generally grow immensely sick of hearing the same dread day after day.
Man can't stand still, man must always change, grow and adapt, thus the ultimate flaw in conservative philosophy and inherrent downfall for Bring-em-on boy.

4. They are like Pharoah in the story of Moses. |

I really thought that in September they would try and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and internationalize the occupation; giving up some authority for money and troops. Their arrogance and false pride apparently look like strength to them and they will not change course.
This is typical of Republicans; they literally cannot understand why people don't agree with them and make no effort to do so.

Excellent point above about the Conservative philosophy by it's very nature NOT being adaptable to new realities.
Conservatism by definition is rigid and non changing. It subscribes to the notion of unchanging 'values' and because of this it becomes hard for them to divert from a path once they've started down it.
This, of course can be said of all politicians (Dems included) - But, I think that the liberal outlook and philosophy (and most importantly its constituency) Is by nature 'forward' thinking. We embrace change and contemplation whereas Conservatives tend to look at that as 'moral ambiguity' and 'hand wringing'
So true - A conservative administration can not last for the very reason that the tides of time will wipe it out.
I guess our job is to move that tide along so our kids don't have to live through it.

7. Very Hard to Admit Being Wrong |
|
I heard Daniel Ellsberg say it the other day: "It's very hard to admit you were wrong about a war when you have to explain it to the families of the dead."
In other words, it takes character to admit being wrong. Bush doesn't have any. The only way to stop this war is to get another president.
