Upset with DU

I am disappointed in DU. I posted a news item yesterday regarding the sudden death of my high school football coach. It made the front page of several newpapers in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota this morning. I told of quotes from this great man that all persons should take to heart. It was locked and moved.

I am a bit emotional today, but this is the kind of article that needs to be read and LBN is the place where I believe most people look when they log on. If DU has an alternate view that is fine and I can live with it, but I am upset by the decision.

Have different forums at DU. This kind of post, for example, probably belongs in Ask The Admins. It helps to keep the forums from getting clogged up with posts not relevant to the topic. Don't worry though. You'll catch on. Sorry about your coach and welcome to DU.

Condidering the rules, it seems the mod actually did you a favor by moving the thread. The rules clearly state that they just lock without moving. I understand your being upset, but the rules were actually bent in your favor here, apparently.

4. I think we are just asking you

that we need to be cognizant of the rules as well. For example, Sean Robertson's grandmother just died, but he posted it in the proper place.

We don't know how the moderators run this forum. We are just here to use it at our convenience. I just think we need to respect the rules here, regardless of the nature of the piece. We value this place because it is a place where we can have debates about liberal and progressive ideas and we thank the moderators for doling out thousands of dollars a month for their mostly unpaid work.

I hope you can overcome your loss. I am sure he meant a lot to you and remember the cherished memories you two shared. It will make you a better person.

He sounds like a wonderful human being.

But since DU is a political board, new political and international news gets priority in LBN. Sorry. Actually the Lounge is probably the best place for it. Death announcements outside of international news and politics usually go there.

Don't take it personally. Threads get moved all the time. It's just an effort to keep the different forums for their intended purposes.

Edit: Agree with poster below me. This thread probably belongs in the Ask the Admins forum.

It takes a while to learn the rules here. And there are plenty of DUers who would love to read about him.

I hope your not disappointed if this thread is closed too. I think the proper forum for this is the Ask the Administrator forum.

It's tough to know the rules when you first come to DU, but trust me when I say that the people here are full of compassion and will grieve with you over the loss of someone who obviously meant a lot to you.
