More than 17 hours into the 30-Hour Pointless Senate Debate Thread #7
Sen. Byron Dorgan (D - North Dakota) repeats 168 nominees approved.

We have the lowest vacancy rate since the 80s.

Dorgan says he won't apologize for that fact.

4. The best thing about this is
Americans are treated to a veritable Who's Who of their senators--it's a good watch from a performance standpoint even if the subject, like the senators themselves, is about as tired as it can get.

5. Thanks for keeping this topic going
I'm a cube rat todday and have no access to what's going on.

Someone said in another thread, this is about republican senators spending 30 hours on behalf of 4 people who have jobs rather than spend that time on the 3 million Americans without employment. Screwed up priorities. I hope the Dems hold strong. I'll keep emailing.

I'm confident Durbin will do the right thing and fitzpuppet will be a partisan hack.

8. Dorgan doing a good job of pressing home the fact that Republicans
are disenfranchising conservatives too, with their ridiculous policies. Talking about a young Christian woman who went to Cuba to distribute Bibles. Under Republican policy the woman would be violating the law. "For passing out BIBLES!"

LOL.

how the Republicans can get so worked up and so OUTRAGED over 4 people who collectively make over ONE MILLION DOLLARS, yet can't muster a fucking ounce of concern for our nation's poor, impoverished, veterans, unemployed, uninsured citizens.

15. These nominees are critical to them...
since they're to the higher courts. These are the people from which Supreme Court justices are selected. So, they've literally "gone to the mattresses" for them. The decisions these judges would make would be felt far and wide.

12. I hope you realize...
That you may well be seeing the first glimmers of a real turning point in the Elections of 2004. Right now, for all with the eyes to see, and a few that don't have those eyes, the REAL Repuke party is being laid bare in a marathon exposure.

This will reverberate for a long time to come. To think that they have painted themselves into this corner, all by their lonesome.

Pay close attention. You WILL be seeing this material again. The repukes are installing themselve in a idealogically indefensible position. It's nothing short of a slow philosophical suicide.

13. Excellent point!
Right now, for all with the eyes to see, and a few that don't have those eyes, the REAL Repuke party is being laid bare in a marathon exposure.

I've been watching on and off since yesterday at 6. I've NEVER, EVER seen the Republicans more VILE, more sanctimonious, more untruthful, more destructive, more partisan and more pain old EVIL! The late, late night and early morning sessions featured speeches and statements from speakers (such as Rick Santorum) that would have characterized any other person speaking those same words as insane.

The Republicans have placed the light on their own insanity. They are a freak show and this will mark a turning point in the upcoming elections. There are a thousand sound bites the Dems could use.

19. Lawmakers pull all-night filibuster
WASHINGTON - President Bush delivered a wake-up call to the Senate on Thursday, punctuating an all-night talkathon with a demand for an "up or down" vote on four of his appellate court nominees blocked by Democrats.

Standing in the Oval Office with three women whose nominations have been stalled, Bush launched his broadside as Democrats and Republicans took turns at the microphone during a marathon session organized by majority Republicans to protest Democratic filibusters.

"These people deserve an up or down vote on the Senate floor," Bush told reporters. "And yet a few senators are playing politics and it's wrong and it's shameful. ... I will stand with them to the bitter end."

No way did they want to continue a question & answer session with Schumer answering the questions. First there's unanimous consent that he continue, then there isn't, then there is... now there isn't.

GAWWD forbid those people shouldn't be allowed to mischaracterize what the "other side of the aisle" has said and done uninterrupted. Oh' yeah and it's only factual theatre when the Democrats have the floor.

Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 02:14 PM by Isome
I suppose my bias is showing. I hear them insisting that an up or down vote on those four nominees is critical to upholding the Constitution and, in a sense, maintaining democracy in America. Yet whenever a Democrat asks for unanimous consent to place another issue on the floor (an issue pertaining to the immediate concerns of our citizens), they cynically respond with a suggestion to modify that request by adding an up or down vote on one of the four rabid rightwing judges.

Arrrrrrrgggggggh! They do that, and then with a straight face, tell the public that Democrats are the only ones being partisan! Four friggin' nominees versus minimum wage / millions without healthcare insurance / public education crumbling / unemployment compensation / 9 million Americans out of work / asbestos clean up / etc. etc. etc. ...

78. I am one of those unemployed folks in WA that she spoke of..
.. it sure is nice that the repukes would rather continue this charade of a senate proceding instead of getting down to business and help the unemployed folks throughout the country. These same people which are supposed to be serving as the peoples voice in the Senate, but are instead more concerned over 4 judicial nominees.

Shame on them!

That's all that anyone who has so much as glanced at this session will remember :)

77. 168 - 4 Poster Has Been On The Easle Throughout The Whine-a-thon
I love it! Everytime our side get's to talk it is there! No need to put up any other charts.. that says it all!
98% approved and the repukes are whining (and stalling!) over 2%!!! The dems are being FAR more generous to the repukes than the repukes were to Clinton.

minority rights, womens rights, etc... isn't this the party of no immigration, no abortions, no suing to get the rights they don't want you to have...
