1. I don't think so
I think it was more a swipe at liberals. Homophobia may have been a part of it, though.

2. I have no doubt in my mind
that homosexuality was what he was thinking.

I have this scary feeling that the auditor from Florida is going to screw up the place there since she is so anti-environment while a lot of Californians are environmentally friendly.

5. No, just a fag joke
that's profiundly revealing IMO.

Seems to betray some kind of erroneous belief that the benighted conservative "amerikan christers" will soon politically marginalize all progressive thought in this country.

He must be in some kind of semi-consious, gleeful stupor.

Hateful bast*ds.

8. Sometimes I wish we could get rid of the Florida panhandle
But then I remember that that's not how we solve problems in the United States. The Civil War took care of that.

11. No. He's just an asshole
I think it was more of an attack on liberals in general. Don't give Jeb this much credit for thinking through something. His mind works like:
San Fran = liberals
liberals = me hate
me hate + me being an asshole = stupid comment me think funny

13. How else are all these San Franciscans supposed to die?
In a war? From pollution? Gun shot wounds? Crime?

I'd really like the "Liberal Media" to ask him and W exactly what all this means...but I know they will get free passes, as usual...

Imagine if a Democrat said "I hope all Southern Baptists die"- not that a DEM would even dream of saying that...

Pacific, or be swallowed up in an earthquake, or be burned up by forest fires.

Edit: Though of course his subtext was gays, liberals, it's even remotely possible he was not thinking of AIDS but of the earthquakes, fires, etc., endangering SF.

15. I don't think he thinks that far ahead
If anything he might have meant figuratively in the sense that the Muscleman won the recall election in California, thus, in his mind eroding the support the left has in CA. But it's speculation. I don't think he meant anything. He's just an asshole.

And you're right, no Democrat would say that. We're not assholes.

17. so...very...mad
Giving Jeb the benefit of the doubt, he could be referring to San Francisco because it is typically known as one of the most liberal cities in the United States. However, he didn't mention New York City. or Detroit. or any of the liberal cities in the east. Given the Republican support for a "marriage amendment" and reluctance to admit that homosexuals have a right to exist and deserve equal protection under the law, I conclude that Jeb knew exactly what he was saying, and yes, it is a rampant case of homophobia. Consider also the crowd he was addressing. Either way, San Francisco is full of liberals, or San Francisco is full of homosexuals--he knew the comment would fly either way, and he was right.
I'm steaming mad. We cannot allow this BS to continue!!
