Colored blocks and finger paints don't kill people or leave them penniless.

Time out when name calling starts.... of course, the Senate might be in Time Out for most of the session.....

Nap Time when it became obvious they were tired.

Spankings or other punishments when they lie.

Come on, help me with this one!!

Saying when and if the Dems get control of the Senate, the Republicans would obstruct and filibuster all of their nominees.

13. With a tone as nasal as his...
he should refrain from public speaking.

The filibusters are warranted. end... of... story...

They used the cover of committee to put Clinton nominees on hold and effectively abort the confirmation process; we used (are using) the filibuster. So friggin' what?! Why can't it just be discussed honestly. They are such liars — acting as though they didn't engage in the same political partisanship to keep liberal/Democrat nominees from ascending to the federal judiciary.

It's worthless to vote against them when we're in the minority. They'd be confirmed anyway. How dumb do they think we are? Dammit!!

24. The four judges are:
They are technically talking about Charles Pickering, Priscilla Owen, Miguel Estrada, and William Pryor because those have actually had cloture votes defeated. However, Carolyn Kuhl and Janice Rogers Brown will probably join them tomorrow to make a total of six filibustered judges. Estrada has been withdrawn.

29. Pete Dominici (R - New Mexico) is droning on about Miguel Estrada.
They seem to be making a point of how smart and accomplished these nominees are. Whining about how long it took to review Owens, Kuhl, and Brown. Says then we come to Estrada. 848 days taken for Estrada.

He's blustering.

35. One thing I've discovered over this debate is how we really...
Have a lot more balls than the Republicans. If they were really serious about breaking our fillibusters we wouldn't be having 30 hours of bipartisan discussion. They'd be holding constant 24+ hour sessions refusing to adjourn until we drop the fillibuster. But they don't have the balls to do that so they are doing this instead. Go Democrats, keep the fire going!

Things going badly in Iraq.
Not enough Laci, Kobi, Malvo.
(Nothing like the holidays, family reunions with no dollars and soldiers dying.)

Time for the blah, blah, blah- ta da of the neo-con show.
Starring the 4 from the far right.

I don't believe it for a minute. It has everything to do with timing.
Then they can all duck out of D.C. till 2004.

Behind the scenes what we can't see is a WTF conference with Bremer & Bush.

No time for Bremer to have a direct confrontation from Byrd on the cash and carry $87 billion.

Word has it we're gonna give back Iraq and back out ASAP.

BTW has one senator mentioned Carlyle? No one's shy about Halliburton, but I haven't heard it once.

76. here's the link
BBC, naturally.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3268527.stm

"Amid mounting casualties, France - which led opposition at the invasion of Iraq - has called for an urgent change of American strategy in the country.
Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin said a provisional Iraqi Government must be set up by the end of the year."

snip

"US Secretary of State Colin Powell said consultations in Washington this week with the US administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, had been aimed at speeding up the transfer of sovereignty in Iraq and there could be "modifications" to current policy.
"Ambassador Bremer's consultations... will lead to a plan that will accelerate the process but it will be along the basic, fundamental lines that we have laid out from the beginning," he told reporters on Thursday. "

Frist told Bremer is coming to town, told to keep the Dem's busy till he's gone. Period. End of report. Smoke and mirrors. Harry Reid knew it and said so at the beginning.

Great.. lets take up more time with this whining BS.

Time for the Dems to take over next week and just run 72 hours straight.. We'll prop Harry Reid up and he can read the Diebold memos, and Bev's book exposing the cheats by Chambliss and every other Repug thats won an election because of fault DRE's..

We'll just keep em rolling all week long, getting the real issues out, getting work done.

Arlen Specter has though.

91. They probably don't care
The moderates aren't supporting the filibuster but I'm sure they don't like the nominees. Senators like Olympia Snowe, Licoln Chafee and Susan Collins probably side with liberals on most controversial issues before the courts. They aren't gonna get really upset about trying to get judges they don't like on the courts.

If they wanted to speak, I'm sure they could. If they agreed with the republicans they would get yielded time and if they sided with the democrats the democrats would yield them time. They probably have better things to do. I know that Olympia Snowe is trying to get fellow moderate republicans to sign a letter expressing concerns about what the republican leadership is going to do concerning prescription drugs. She shares many of the same concerns that democrats do with the bill.

Who would be the turncoats?

Besides Zell Miller, that's a given.

Who will be the other 8?

That's the point... this 30 hours is to try and break the spirit of the Dems, so they'll end the debate and go straight to voting. At least that's what I thought was going on.

Okay - what will happen regarding the nominees at the end of this action? Will there be an up or down vote or is this the end for them? The threat of the Dem filibuster resulted in the Repubs deciding on these 30 hours. When the Dem spirit is not broken, what will happen? Thanks in advance.

98. I think it's a great opportunity for Dems to present their positions.
And they seem to be doing that in spades. I really love listening to Leahy, Rockefella and others discussing many issues, ranging from judicial appointments to medicare, to the environment, to Iraq. Pukes did us a big favor when they scheduled this bogus event. They arranged for us to have free air time, where we sound sane and reasonable, and they are clearly the nuts who wasted Senate time trying to wear us down on the appointment of a few far rightwing judicial appointments. :D

LOL Hutchinson asks Hatch why Owens isn't sitting on the bench of the 5th district circuit. Hatch says, "Wellll, I think it's because she's not a LIBERAL!"

Hutchinson actually calls Owens "superior."

Yuck.

AGAIN, Hutchinson incorrectly states Democrats are trying to block Owens from a position she has been appointed to. The President canNOT APPOINT! He can only NOMINATE! What a dumbass... obviously law school didn't teach her anything.

113. Hatch tries to get 30 more seconds to continue his diatribe.
Mary Landrieu very VOCALLY objects! Hatch asks her to yield, Landrieu refuses. Things getting feisty now. She's got a BIG sign that says "98%" Makes the point that most Americans don't think it's right to approve 100% of ANY President's nominees.

Makes the point that 500,000 more people voted for Al Gore. Says numbers are important. They ask her to yield for a question. No, she will NOT yield for a question. Landrieu says she thinks a lot of people are watching and she's glad. Puts up another chart. 63 Clinton nominees didn't even get a vote or hearing in committee. Says Hatch had a system in place that prevented a vote from happening.

Hatch keeps interrupting her. Is reminded that Landrieu has the floor. GO MARY! She says she will NOT yield this floor just like she will NOT yield this point.

OMG.... SHE TOTALLY ROCKS!
