Bush Admin: "Prudent" to plan for DRAFT and PUT PEOPLE IN PLACE JUST IN
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 09:43 AM by Skinner
CASE!

I think "it wouldn't be PRUDENT!" as POPPY BUSH WOULD SAY!

From the Houston Chronicle:

Talk of military draft heating up

WASHINGTON -- The United States' uneven record in Iraq has kindled a small but persistent push to reinstitute the military draft, a politically charged idea that hasn't been seriously considered since the end of the Vietnam War.

Yet despite denials from the White House that a draft is under consideration, and despite the obvious political fallout of such a move during an election campaign, talk of a draft has heated up in recent days.

Asked last week if the president is considering reinstituting the draft, press secretary Scott McClellan gave a quick and emphatic answer. "No," he said, moving to the next question.

But military observers and some members of Congress say that the notion of a possible military draft is gaining traction, in part because of questions from Democrats in Congress about the conduct of the Iraqi reconstruction, from retired military officers who are worried that the force is too small to accomplish such a big and difficult job -- and because of the administration itself.

1. I am not below spreading rumors re a draft under a 2nd BushCo reign
. . . after all, the repukes have no qualms about spreading rumors about Democrats. I am just going to start telling people that if Bush gets re"elected" they can count on a draft being instituted.

YIKES!

Truth is Bush needs 6 million under arms to complete the PNAC plan to grab the remaining oil. Cause the Russkies and the Chinese are going to oppose it!

THE DRAFT IS ALIVE IN 2005!!

12. I don't think you would be spreading a rumour.
If Wankerbush is reselected in '04, then the draft will follow. They can not fight a perpetual war with out the draft.

8. The DRAFT would END the Republican Party.
They don't want it, and I'll never believe they want anything other than the professional military they now have. It's much easier to mobilize, the soldiers are more committed, and it's tougher to criticize the war because those fighting in it knew what they were getting themselves into (supposedly).

I have no idea how this spin is getting out, but I'm glad it is. Get regular folks to start worrying about sending THEIR kids off to war INVOLUNTARILY, and people will stop with the flag waving, Bush-loving propaganda.

15. I got news for you, the "professional military" as you call them...
i.e. National Guard, Regular Army ...are probably going to be hemmoraging men and women as a result of what Bush has done in Iraq. Expect the draft to happen. You can't occupy the world without men and women and if they are leaving in large numbers who will replace them, you and your kids?

16. my sister-in-law renewed her service with the reserves before
the war and now wishes she had not. She plans to opt out next chance.

My neighbor down the street did not renew his full time position in the military due to the war....he had planned on a service career but decided against it due to this war.

17. I say again, the country won't stand for it.
It will end the Republicans. I just hope it doesn't end with the death of thousands and thousands of boys and girls.

13. I Think The Plans Are Made
Didn't he also want to resume research into low-yeild tactical nukes? It fits if he gets the draft after reelection.
