A lengthy collaboration between the county's information technology director and advisers from the MicroVote software producer fixed the problem. But before that, computer readings of stored voting machine data showed far more votes than registered voters.

"It was like 144,000 votes cast," said Garofolo, whose corrected accounting showed just 5,352 ballots from a pool of fewer than 19,000 registered voters.

"Believe me, there was nobody more shook up than I was."

2. Yup, thanks. Lady, you need to do more than get "shook up"
On your computer, "accessories," you have a calculator function. Add up 1+1+1+1. How many times does it add that up and give you 144,000?

Open an Excel Spreadsheet. Ask it to add up a column of four "1s" (votes are only one at a time, after all). How many times does Excel add 1+1+1+1 and come up with 144,000?

This is not a glitch. Getting "shook up" is not enough.

We need:
1) an emergency interim solution to give us trustworthy voting, NOW, in the primaries. If that means we have to go all paper, so be it.

2) I know. Next time a voting machine gets someone "all shook up" because it added up 5,000 votes and got 144,000, let's get a lawyer and get the county's money back.

In Louisiana, they are junking their ES&S machines, by the way. But before we clap our hands with glee, they may buy other touch screens, and they are going to do it as a statewide buy recommended by someone whose position will no longer be subject to elections.

(I have that link at the news forum at http://www.blackboxvoting.org)

Yup. Suppose you are a candidate who raised (and borrowed) a hundred thousand to finance your campaign. Would you want to then depend on a machine that can count 5,000 votes as 144,000?

Thanks for catching this.

Bev

5. How can I ask for a paper trail in Indiana
When I voted last week I recived no indication on my vote, so how can I make them change that for the 04 election?
