Al Franken Considers Move to Minnesota...
From yahoo news and gossip:

Comedian Al Franken, a Minnesota native, says he's considering moving back to the state to run against Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in 2008.

<snip>

It's a long way away, five years away," Franken told the Star Tribune this week. "It might be crazy. I might not be the best candidate. Part of this is seeing what happens next year and what direction things are going."

5. He could run for Congress next year...
... he should pick a district with a Republican incumbent , and go after him.

6. May I recommend Mark Kennedy or John Kline
Both would be susceptible to a strong challenger like Franken. I'd prefer he take out Kennedy, since (hopefully) State Sen. Deanna Weiner will be running against Kline and by beating Kennedy we'll have taken down a potential challenger to Mark Dayton in 2006.

7. I too suggest Kennedy
for the same reasons and because he is an ass. There are really too many to name, but yes, come on up to Minnesota, Al. Folks live here, if I remember right?

16. Kennedy's district is largely rural
Kline's district is a mix of suburban and rural. I'm afraid Al would probably do better in an urban district. Not that I would object to Al trying a run against either one of them. However, FBI whistleblower, Colleen Rawley lives in Kline's district and the DFL is rumored to trying to convince her to run against him.

Kennedy annoyed me no end when he ran last year using his siblings in radio ads talking about what a fine family they are "we're the Minnesota Kennedys" :puke: (And a disgrace to the name, I might add.)

BTW, anyone else have a mental disconnect when they see Kennedy's name in a headline relating to some conservative issue? There was a story in the Strib a few months ago with a headline something like "Kennedy vs Dayton". My first thought was, did Mark Dayton do something to annoy Ted Kennedy? Whose side will I take? As it turned out, of course, the article was about the "Minnesota Kennedy" being the most likely Repuke to run against Dayton in 2006. If this happens, I'm seriously worried about name confusion, first, they're both named Mark and I don't think many people associate the name Kennedy with Republicans. Especially people like me who were raised to think IrishCatholicDemocrat is one word.

10. But can you really run on 'Bush is dumb'?
Sooner or later you have to have an idea or two of your own.

12. Why, not having any ideas of his own has worked well for Bush
Mix in a little terror and tax cuts for your rich friends, helluva way to run a Navy.

Welcome to DU, btw - I'm gonna guess you won't be here long, but, what the heck, enjoy your stay.

11. I'd send him money...
His book was amazingly partisan, but it stated the bias from the outset, and I did enjoy it. I think he would make a goood senator. Go for it all, by 2008 I should have some money to send ya!

14. California was offered Huffington and declined.
I hope Minnesotans have more sense.

Can we already anticipate a throw at the presidency in 2012? THAT I really gotta see :)

17. I hope David Wellstone runs.
Voters like candidates with a story.

David Wellstone could have a compelling story of a son succeeding his father to fight for ordinary people-if he decides to run.

If David Wellstone doesn't run, then Al Franken would be alright.

The Repukes will just have the play the Carpetbagger card...

You're asking Franken to beat somebody not even Mondale could defeat.

Can Hillary claim to have beaten such a formidable opponent? (Lazio? Give me a freepin' break!)

Is Franken as famous as she is?

21. He beat Mondale in a turmoil filled last few days --
after the pukes set up artificial "outrage" of the Wellstone funeral service, and the dems had no time to react.

Franken is no carpet bagger wither-- he is from Minnesota. I say Franken wins as long as he avoids small aircraft.

22. Al Franken grew up in Minnesota
He will merely be returning to his roots. Many Minnesotans have done the same thing - moved away but somehow wound up back here years later.
