Santorum is an excellent speaker
So was Hitler...

As repugnant as I find his ideas there is no denying the man can present them well. It's bizarre but he's very similar to Dean in that respect. How can such an obviously intelligent man be so misguided? All of his accusations about Democrats using the judiciary to (in essence) write law apply more so in reverse. GWB's America, where up=down.

Well, cloture was defeated and that just proves again that presented well or not, the message triumphed over that messenger.

2. Sen Rick Santorum (R - Man-on-Dog)
Is probably one of the most evil guys in politics today. And the competition is fierce.

3. How can such an obviously intelligent man be so misguided?
When greed and fear enter, intelligence is often overridden. I think, ultimately, that this is what has happened with most of the politicians these days, but it's most obvious with the extreme right wingers.

4. I'll tell you why
On Ash Wednesday this guy went on television with the ashes still visible on his head. He is so into having everyone else think he's holer than thou that he acts like a real asshole to prove it.

Sorry, anybody who is that intent on showing his religion to me is religiously insane.

Anybody that can say with a straight face and so much fire that privacy is not a right...is loony.

7. I am not Catholic but
aren't the ashes supposed to remain on their forehead for the day? So if he went in the morning, they would be there all day. I know at work I have seen many people with the ashes smeared on their forehead and I don't think they are shoving their religion in my face or "being holier than thou."

Is a Jewish man wearing his yarmukle (spelling?) doing something wrong? Or the Cathlolic who crosses themselves when they pass a church? They're just expressions of their religious beliefs.

15. I am an ex-Catholic Atheist--and can confirm re: the Ashes
That they are supposed to stay on our forehead.

So I have no trouble with Rick wearing the ashes.

It is when he opens his mouth that the trouble starts.

18. I find his method of delivery overly dramatic and poorly conceived
His speeches are stuffed with feigned outrage and moral righteousness that listening to him is a paiful, embarrassing experience. I, for one, do not find him intelligent, but dogmatic and arrogant. His pointless pontifications are an insult to the Senate and the people of the United States. That this man is paid more than the men and women he voted to send to Iraq is beyond me. A nearly worthless human being, devoid of any redeeming qualities.

20. Intelligence has NOTHING to do with conscience...
It seems to be a human trait from Hitler, & Stalin, down through Bush & Santorum to assume a very outward pose of "moral superiority" to maks the lack of a conscience.

Beware of people who trumpet their moral superiority as infallible. It usually makss something dark within.

24. I saw a clip of Santorum on CNBC and he looked
like a whiny bitch screaming in a craking voice about how "unfair" the mean democrats were.

It was ridiculous and needs to bashed. He was horrible.

26. Did anyone see the Daily Show clip of Santorum?
Jon Stewart played a snippet of Santorum doing his over-the-top fake outrage shrieking-voice protest of the evil Dems. At Ricky then said "Methinks thou dost protest too much." Jon paused (you know how he gives the audience that wide-eyed look) and then, in a very flowery voice, said something like "MMMmmm, for someone who equated homosexuality with bestiality it sounds like he is very well acquainted with the theater!" and then did a few dramatic flourishes with his hands. The crowd went wild and gave Stewart prolonged applause.

However, I read that he took a miscarried baby home to show his kids. That is just way too creepy for me.

30. I disagree.
I watched him several times during the Senate marathon and not once did he appear to be a polished or persuasive speaker. He was better than some, but no where near deserving of the praise you've given him. It could be I have a higher standard. I've read other posts on DU praising the performances of different politicians during the session televised on CSPAN, and I didn't agree with their assessments either.

It's understandable to be swayed by someone merely for saying the things you believe in, but a genuinely riveting or charismatic speaker isn't just someone who manages to enunciate clearly and not sound like he's reading from a script. Someone like Insane Santorum is an adequate speaker, but his delivery is no more sensational than any other Grand High Poohbah of Upperbuttcrack.

31. santorum much resembles Reinhard Heydrich,
hitler's killer in charge of Bohemia in WWII. Everytime I see him, I immediately make the physical connection. Look at a photo sometime in the library, or on History Channel.

Ordinarily I do not bash people for their 'looks', but this guy is the new Jesse helms, IMO, so I don't care.
