Is today's Republican Party really "conservative" ?
I heard a caller to C-SPAN make the point this AM that they are not really conservatives. Conservatives don't spend money like drunken sailors. Conservatives like balanced budgets. Conservatives should be for individual rights and privacy rights. Does today's Repub Party bear any semblance to true conservatism?

1. Well, not the bit that's running it
I mean i'm sure there are many republicans who are still for those things, but they don't seem to be running the show.

3. NO
they have bastardized the word conservative, and are now going after the Constitution. I have never heard so many rediculous interpretations of the Constitution as I did during the Senate marathon. Bunch of extremists.

5. No. Conservatism has no monetary payoff.

If you actually cut govt spending, then you aren't giving money to the corporations that bought you your office. Halliburton and Bechtel didn't pay good money for nothing. Neither did Rupert Murdoch.

6. I think this is a very effective propaganda message for the Democrats...
Since most Repubs know in their hearts that their Party is not really conservative, it would behoove Democrats to remind them of the fact at every opportunity. I think the truth it would help to destroy their base support.

7. No, they are Totalitarians.
Obedience to their Bushevik Masters is their cause.

Many of them, of the Freeper/Dittohead/Brownshirt variety can be flicked on and off like a light switch according to the dicataes of their Bushevik Masters. (examples...defcits, Jessica Lynch, Big Brother-style governemnt)

This is not an accident but as deliberate as the first and most famous application of this sort of propaganda, in 1930s Germany.

8. No they are not Conservative and
It is breaking my Grandfather's heart too .

He feels betrayed .

I can't imagine what it must be like for him
to see his beloved party become what he risked
his life to fight in WWII .

However he is inspired by my passion even though
he disagrees with me on some issues .

My Grandfather is a True Blue Conservative
and I love him .

REAL CONSERVATIVES like God, the first Lawgiver and Creator of Earth and Hades. Down with Privacy! Down with drunken sailors! Down with Godless biology!

That's why we need Roy Moore to run for President.

11. No!!
This is a point I try to make with my friends all the time. This admin. is NOT your regular Conservative party. These people don't even have a suitable label yet other than Neocons. This was the worse case of Bait n'switch ever perpetrated on the American people.

There message changes from administration to administration. We would not have a deficit if conservatives were truly conservative.

13. They are radicals
the opposite of conservative. They are extreme right wing radicals who are primarily interested in the transferal of wealth from the American people to corporate entities.

This is a great du article from last year

Greetings From Your Secret Allies on the Right
October 8, 2002
By Anonymous

Yes, that's right. You heard me. We are allies.

I am one of liberalism's secret new allies. There are many of us; millions of us in fact. We are denizens of the Right... the true Right - the Third Party Right. The Pat Buchanan Right..the Libertarian Right..of half a dozen other small parties. We're not the right-wing of the neoconservative, snotty, elitist, oil-sucking Republican Party. We're the real conservatives... and we have more in common with you now than we ever will with the loathsome imperialist jackboots who are squatting in our White House.

14. Nope
They've managed to combine the worst of the old 'internationalist' movement (we need to attack other countries to change thier waves) with the Robber Barons, isolationists (we should ignore the rest of the world) and the reactionairies of the Religious Reich.

15. The Paleo-Conservatives are out of power
Their party is ruled by the Neo-Conservatives faction. Nothing at all like classical conservatives.

17. my first post here, I gave yesterday
I would say not and as a talking point strategy we shouldn't refer to them as that. I think the term "radical right" is best to describe the Bushavics. I don't like Neo-con, to a less educated person it may sound to smart, I believe that is the term they use to describe themselves and we shouldn't help spread it. Conservative might appeal to independents, radical right should not.

18. i have a card from 1967 i believe I AM A REPUBLICAN BECAUSE....
and the bushivics would be unrecognizable to the republicans who wrote it. RR as well. i discussed this card on my blog months ago, but i underlined the most egregious parts of divergence.

one.....I believe that sound economic growth can be generated ONLY BY SOUND MONEY AND AVOIDANCE OF INFLATIONARY DEFICITS.

two......I believe in equal rights and EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, OR COLOR.

three....I believe our party is a party of vision retaining those thing from the past that are worth retaining and always receptive to new ideas in the task OF BUILDING A BETTER AMERICA.

somewhere principles became petty greedy bullshit.
