Roy Moore has Gary Bauer's tacit support for President?
Very interesting...

http://www.crosswalk.com/news/1231098.html

Snippet -

"I know there is some disagreement as to whether or not Roy Moore did the right thing by not obeying the federal court order to remove the monument. But consider this: If a judge had refused to comply with the Supreme Court's Dred Scott decision that upheld slavery as a constitutional right, in retrospect that judge would have been hailed for his moral courage. I believe history will look favorably upon Judge Roy Moore for resisting an ideology that is hell bent on stripping every vestige of faith from the public square.

After his trial ended, Moore raised a few eyebrows when he stated he would make an announcement soon that "could alter the course of this country." Some think he may run for public office, perhaps even president, as a protest candidate.

Stay tuned - this issue isn't going to go away any time soon.

1. AMEN TO THAT REVEREND
If he runs for president, ooo let's say on the Reform party platform, he could put Bush in a bind. Bush could be seen as "not" Christian enough.

3. That would DEFINITELY...
...suck up votes in the south. My roommate's from Alabama and thinks Moore walks on water, so.

Later.

4. does bauer have something against bush ?
i remember when gary bauer endorsed mccain i was surprised. because mccain is less right wing than bush is and bauer is wayyy right wing. so i don't think it has much to do with issues, but it seems there might be some hostility between bauer and bush.

5. fine, I'm willing 2 wait 100
years for Roy 2 B called a hero. But since there was NO judge w/ any 'moral courage', it is kinda moot, in retrospect.

6. GET REAL! This is a ploy to make Bush seem more moderate.
They do this all the time.

8. good point
we have to watch out for that. i remember pat robertson saying something about staying low key until the elections were over so he doesn't turn off voters to bush.

7. I love the way the religious right compares every issue to slavery
Every time they object to something in the culture (abortion, gay rights, stupid ten commandments monuments) it's always the same thing "What if we hadn't acted on our consciences regarding slavery?". Lots of christians supported slavery, too, just like many opposed it. Some even used arcane verses from Genesis to justify their actions ("cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants shall he be"). The Methodist church even split over it, with the pro-slavery faction becoming the Wesleyan denomination. I'm sure more people than just christians opposed slavery, and for reasons beyond religon such as the constitutional guarantees of equal rights for all.

9. Roy Moore running against Chimpy could be interesting
If the Bauer camp runs Roy Moore against Chimpy in the Republican primaries, he will split the winger vote. I daresay Moore could take a few states away from Bush in a "who loves Jesus more" contest.

As Chimpy moves even farther to the right to try to win the hearts and minds of the people who would vote for Moore, the actual Christians in this country will see Chimpy for what he really is.

At the same time, we run a few religious moderates in our primaries. They'll be good Christians (in the best sense of the word, not in the way guys like Moore and Phelps have perverted it) but not insane. This will be mighty appealing to a vast cross-section of America.

Combined with a program of sensible tax and spending policy, returning self-governance to Iraq as quickly as we can and a logical antiterrorism policy, real Christianity can win it for us.

10. Roy will run as an independent
Can't see even him being nuts enough to enter primaries against Bush. His ego couldn't take the destruction. No, his True Calling is to run as an independent. We can only hope!

11. Gary Bauer has always impressed me
If it weren't for his mis-step in an early GOP primary's pancake-flipping contest, we might well be addressing Gary Bauer as "President Bauer."

If he thinks Roy Moore is presidential timber, its good enough for me.

Roy Moore for President!

With all of Bauer's campaign trail experience, Moore couldn't do better than pick Gary Bauer as his campaign manager, and the fiesty little campaigner might make one heck of a vice president, too.

13. This is a hammer to use on Bush
There are puh-lenty of right wing Christians who are not at all satisfied with Bush because he hasn't pushed their agenda enough and did not support Santorum more forcefully over the gay sex thing. The way they see it, the pubs have both Houses AND the White House and if they are going to get their agenda through, it's now or never. And, outside of the partial birth abortion thing, Bush hasn't followed through enough for them.

In fact, at a meeting last year, a bunch of the leaders said if they didn't get more out of Bush they'd tell their supporters to just stay home.

This isn't support for Moore, but a not-so-veiled threat to Bush.

Either way it's good news for us. Either Bush gets a competitor or he has to go so far right in order to keep the wingnuts happy that he alienates the center.
