Which Party came out ahead in the 40-hr debate marathon? |
|
Now that we've had a few hours to contemplate and let the aggressors analyze their bruises, which Party do you think came out ahead in the debate? No doubt the Repubs will attempt to spin it for the next few days trying to convince their supporters they were the victors. But from the post-debate whining, it appears the Dems won on a technical knockout. If they can convince enough pro-choice Republican women that they were fighting for their rights also, Democrats may come out way ahead.

1. The Dems will think the Dems came out ahead, and vice-versa |
|
That's the whole problem. The truth is, no one came out ahead. Since the Dems kept saying this over and over, in the end, it will be they who came out ahead. But, for now, we are all losers for this debacle.

6. Well, then, the Dems won. |
|
Does anybody really believe that the Democrats will lose votes over this? No. Nor do I believe that the Republicans did anything to gain votes that they already had coming to them since this is an issue that only energizes people who are already politically involved.

5. I am biased, of course but... |
|
I happen to think that the dems kicked ass!! I don't know who was responsible for their strategy but I feel it was absolutely brilliant. Using all that c-span and news time to bash everything else that needs to be debated was a stroke of genious, I only wish some had gotten up to spend a few hours on * lies.

Zell Miller - Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!
Ben Nelson - NE
The Dem Party (w/the exception of the two traitors) did prove that they can fight, which is something we have been screaming for, for three years.
The repugs did not get their RW judges appointed.
The American people lost two days that the lawmakers should have been concentrating on extremely important issues.

8. No one came out ahead because no one was watching... |

except us political junkies.
But I did enjoy all the competing blue charts with big numbers.
It's 168-4!
No, it's 2372-0!
No, really, it's 168-4!
Good times were had by all.

9. Depends on the Republican base |
|
The Republican base has been pissed off for months at the Senate Leadership over the filibuster. Frist had to do something to appease them or some senators may have paid the price in either primaries or voter turn-out.
I would like to see the polls on how Republicans viewed the talkfest. If they saw it as "too little, too late," then the Democrats "won." If they are satisfied, the Republicans won.
I frankly don't think Independents or most Democrats gave a damn about this. This was a show designed for one specific audience.

10. Dems won for five reasons |
|
1. The base got an opportunity to see the Democrats act like Democrats, standing up to Republicans and fighting for what's right.
2. The Republicans pissed off the Democrats, particularly those moderate Democrats who have been wavering and uneasy about filibusters and galvanized the entire Caucus into continuing to fight Bush, the Republican leadership and these bad judges
3. The judges didn't get confirmed
4. The American public got a full and unfiltered look at the fact that Bush has gotten 168 - 98% - of his judges confirmed while only 4 (and now 6) have been stopped and got further proof that the Dems are the only thing standing between us and a full-fledged dictatorship.
5. Mary "No, I will NOT yield!" Landrieu is on our team.

I'm afraid both sides came out looking rather... err... childish. Of course, as a Democrat, I believe the Democrats won. But I can't be trusted for objectivity.

They acheived their objective and held rank. Any other view of this is poppyrot. I agree, it's too bad it had to come down to parliamentary procedures, but that's the game- and the stakes are too high to lose.
