The Bad News Is, The News Is Good (article by Stan Sinberg)
Great article by Stan Sinberg:

<snip>
Yes, with less than a year to go until the next presidential election, we're at that point where we GWB - bashers actually have to root for bad news. Welcome to the Bizarro World of Presidential Politics: where the worse things get, the brighter our prospects become.
<snip>

<snip>
That's why it would be just our rotten luck that, after a prolonged slump, the economy will improve enough for a few ill-timed months
- with a higher growth rate and increased employment (even though Bush will still be the first president since Herbert Hoover to preside over a net loss of jobs in his first term) - to convince voters that W. has righted the ship enough to warrant casting another ballot for him - at which point the economy will prompty go back into the crapper again. And then we'll have four more miserable years of unremitting Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Condoleeza, and the rest of the wacko right-wing brigade.

1. this has been the danger wiith the Dem. strategy
all along, that the economy and and Iraq would improve. They seemed to think that everything would stay bad through the election. Basically they were trying to predict the future over a year in advance. This is pretty risky.

2. I don't buy it.
First of all, what someone wishes for in their heart is different from what they say publicly.
And secondly, it is not even necessary. The vast majority of analyses that I have seen from economists indicate that whatever policies (or lack of policies perhaps) that they are following are going to be disastrous. At that point, it's just spin, and we have to be better at it than they are.

3. Unfortunately,
the disastrous nature of the policies will not be truly felt until Bush is gone from office. By this time next year there is a good chance that the natural buisness cycle will cause the economy to improve, regardless of what Bush does.
