Did Ted Kennedy really say this or did my repuke neighbor make this up?
He claims he heard Kennedy say this on the radio news:

What has not ended is the resolution and the determination of the members of the United States Senate to continue to resist any Neanderthal that is nominated by this president of the United States for any court, federal court in the United States."

Thanks for setting it straight.

34. "protohumans"?
They weren't protohumans, they were full members of the family homo sapiens: h. sapiens neandertalensis.

Jeez, give those poor souls the credit they're due!

12. No
Well, it's impossile to prove a negative.

The Washington Post CHARACTERIZED the democrats as portraying judicial nominee Pickering as a Neanderthal. After that, several pundits picked up on the word saying that the dems had called Pickering a Neanderthal. I can find no evidence of it -- Kennedy or anybody else. The earliest reference I can find is the Post editorial of Feb. 17, 2002.

23. He worded his statement
in a way that did not specifically apply to any one of the judges. Rather, he said something like "we're not going to approve neanderthals". It was a very moving moment for me. I think I teared up.

The Repubs are trying to make him out to be a racist comment. When all he was doing is pointing out how far back these Judges thinking go. Do you want a person with the understanding of a neanderthal to make judicial decisions that affect your life?

25. Figures that the Repubs would try and make it racial because they...
don't have a friggin clue what neanderthal means!

1 also Ne·an·der·tal /-"tol, -"täl/ : being, relating to, or resembling Neanderthal man
2 : suggesting a caveman in appearance, mentality, or behavior
- Neanderthal noun

What race does this definition refer to I wonder?

Most of the original specimens wer collected in France.

Ya know, with France & Germany's opposition to Bush, of course the 'pukes don't like to be compared to them.

Chalk it up to fatigue.

Maybe that was their plan; deprive Democrats of sleep, infuriate them and wait for one of them to snap and make a really hostile statement, so they can attack them about it, heh.

26. Good for Ted!!!
I think Ted's got his Irish up and he's not going to sit back and take Repuke crap anymore.

Maybe the 40th anniversary of JFK's murder and what-might-have-beens are weighing heavily on him. (Maybe he knows more about the BFEE than we even suspect?)

Or maybe it's dawned on some of the Senate Democrats that, with Wellstone gone, they're going to have start speaking up because there is no one else to do it for them anymore.

30. Yes, Ted Kennedy said
exactly those words. I caught the repeat of the Dems press conference on C-Span2, and he said exactly that. He also said that on Thanksgiving day, the President releases turkeys, and he can release these right-wing turkeys.

Senator Chuck Schumer was up next. He said What can I say after that? Then he said "Gobble, gobble". It was great.

35. I was lucky to catch that
replay. It was live on C-Span3 right after the vote, and of course, hardly anyone gets C-Span3. I flipped on to see what was going on in the Senate. They were adjourned and this press conference was replaying. Barbara Boxer and Maria Cantwell gave them "what for", as well. Barbara described the incident where the drug salesman was in the room while the Dr. was examining a woman. She said the man was even fanning the patient. She didn't know who he was. Thought it might be another Dr. Cantwell was really angry and gave them real Hell.
