Dean grabs minor endorsement out of Sharpton's hands
The Reverend Al Sharpton certainly will never get any big union endorsements, but he had a legitimate shot at getting the support of the Broadway Democrats — a political club made up of 50-75 neighborhood leaders encompassing the district from 106th Street to 125th Street — that is, from the Hudson to Central Park West.

One hundred people from the community gathered at Banks Street College of Education, as did two of Sharpton's lawyers, to listen to representatives from most of the campaigns, and expecting Reverend Sharpton to be the only candidate to show up in person. Unfortunately for the candidate, that was not in the cards.

According to Sanford Rubinstein, Sharpton's lawyer who spoke on his behalf, "he was caught up in a meeting."

So, who did the Broadway Democrats endorse? Howard Dean. In the first vote, Dean got 21 votes, Clark got 11, and Sharpton got 3, thereby forcing a Dean-Clark runoff. Dean squeaked by with 55 percent.

6. unlike some other candidates (read: Kerry)…
the main focus of Dean's campaign has always been on beating Bush, not his Democratic opponents.

5. Here's what actually happened there
Dean got 21 out of 57 votes:

1st Ballot, club members: Dean 21, Clark 11, No Endorsement 10, Kucinich 5, Sharpton, Kerry and Edwards each 3, Gephardt 1, Lieberman and Braun each 0. Total votes, 57, no candidate receiving a majority, Dean, Clark and No Endorsement advanced to the 2nd ballot.

This is my home turf. A lot of anti-war sentiment here on the upper west side of Manhattan. But I commend you again on digging up
whatever little morsels of positive news are out there for your candidate.

8. that info was contained in my original post
regarding your comment about "digging up whatever little morsels of positive news are out there for your candidate"… I think you've got me confused with a Kerry supporter.

10. It's all right here in this simple sentence, NYfM.
So, who did the Broadway Democrats endorse? Howard Dean. In the first vote, Dean got 21 votes, Clark got 11, and Sharpton got 3, thereby forcing a Dean-Clark runoff. Dean squeaked by with 55 percent.

11. No. There's one important fact missing
actually several- but the main one is that there were 57 total voters present. The fact that there were votes for the other candidates or "no endorsement" totals were not included in the story.
Also, congressman Jerrold Nadler represented (did the presentation for) Dean- a very persuasive speaker, and certainly the most powerful one present.
