Question concerning what was most likely to cast a pall over everyone's
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 01:54 AM by Valerie5555
Christmas spirit.

As we get all the nearer to the Christmas holidays, I was all of a sudden wondering what was likely to cast a pall over everyone's Christmas spirit, I figured this year it may be having to take some sort of crappy "desperation" job if a person was lucky, not to mention possibly the fear or :scared: of the implications of the war on Iraq coming back to bite everyone in the butt, (i.e. as in terrorism.).

At least unlike last year at this time, with the looming war on Iraq, the Shrubbery hadn't gotten the United States and every other country supposedly aligned with the United States (that Bush hadn't yet pissed or peeved off) into another war with or on another Middle Eastern country, yet.

On edit: The idea of contributing to causes or charitable groups in people's names for Christmas, in lieu of presents, like a contribution to an animal shelter for an animal lover, is a good one since Christmas does seem commercialistic enough as it is and the need no doubt is fairly great at this time of year.

3. Not to mention 3,000 families
spending yet another holiday season minus one and minus answers about what really happened on September 11, 2001. :(

2. For me it is something more generic to our society

Here we go into the Consumer Xmas season at war, with US and civilian casualties mounting day by day. The news reports our bombing of Iraqi neighborhoods to remind towns "we have teeth and claws and will use them"

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,102449,00.html

And here on my TV, between all the shots of carnage, come the commercials for video games encouraging our young people to play at war.

We are a sick, sick society.
