If :puke: Jindal beats Blanco, would you feel more confident in...
the electability of minority candidates?

I wish I had more confidence in my fellow Whites, but I don't...

Maybe Jindal's likely victory in LA would be a positive development...*shudderS*

1. In a strange way...

it will be a step in the right direction for the state of Louisiana. Actually it'd be historical either way, because they haven't had a woman governor before either.

After all this is the state where twelve years ago, David Duke was almost elected. Now Duke and the other guy he ran against are both in jail.

Atleast it shows that the race of the candidate doesn't matter in the south, as long as they're a religious nut , they're ok (woulda been interesting to see if Piyush "Bobby" Jindal coulda won this thing as a Hindu. Somehow I doubt it).

7. I am an Indian in USA...
...and I would not support Bobby Jindal. He is too conservative for my taste. For all practical puposes, he is a "white conservative". I dont think he is going to help the minorities at all (including other Indian-Americans).

12. Why Do Most Indians Gravitate To The Republican Party?
It seems like they are embracing the Republican party because they associate the Dems with the socialism they fleed in India...

13. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Indians are one if, if not the most affluent group in the USA. I know that in my state, NJ, they are the most affluent ethnic group. They are primarily voting their pocketbooks, but social conservatism also plays a role.

15. Ahhhh
Unlike Jews.....

Most Jews have remained loyal to the Democratic party despite moving up the economic ladder....

Same thing with most African Americans....

I know alot of Indians... Most of them are very entrepreneurial and anti-statist.....

If a minority can win the votes of Southern white Republicans minorities should be able to successful win votes among Democrats.

It isn't just whites. Look at the elected non-white officials in Congress. What % of them were elected by an electorate where most of the people were "members" of their race?

Some Moran, in Canada do people have the ability to vote across racial lines? Are there any MP's that are minorities in their riding?

I think the election of an Indian-American would be a positive thing.

4. I read a very interesting piece on this yesterday
and the theory seems to be that only blacks are considered minorities by the racists in Louisisana. Thus they are voting for him strictly on the issues.

In most places in the USA he would be considered a "raghead", though.

5. No because I feel he is pandering to the right
I listened to NPR last night and a number of Indians who are funding his campaign are actually uncomfortable with his views.....how is that good? That would be like me donating money to pRick Santorectum because he and I are catholics...even though I don't agree with him at all..

In fact it was a bit of a surreal broadcast because one woman was talking about all the "influence" she expected the indian community to gain by helping him out.

Now I know political donations can influence candidates but....this blatant boasting made me feel dirty listening to it. In fact I have given a fair amount of money to candidates in the past and I am actually on a first name basis with some of my politicians...but I have never gained anything personally but the hope that they would fulfill democratic ideals.... color me an idealist I guess...

That broadcast made me a supporter for public financing of campaigns..

6. He's VERY conservative. It wouldn't be progress. This guy's on a mission..
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 10:17 AM by AP
...from god. Not only would he further an agenda which is, bascially, bad for the middle class and good for Wall St, he would further cloud the religion as wedge issue problem for Democrats.

He'll go all over the south next fall telling people (or implying) a vote for Bush is a vote for god.
