3. It's going to be tough to win this one.
Voters want someone who is credible, has a good, strong image, and will not raise taxes. Which Dem would that be?

4. I like the headline
Howard Dean still unknown quantity to many Americans. I think that says alot. I also think that just because he is 9-points behind Bush in a trial heat about a year before the election is nothing to get too frazzled about since VP Al Gore was 15-20 points behind Bush for much of 2000 up until the Dem convention and he ended up winning the popular vote.

7. Kick.
Just to show what a biased outfit gallup is. I would take all of their polls with a huge grain of salt, they have an agenda.

14. If thats true how
do you explain the "headlines" in post #6. They also seem to give our chimp his highest poll numbers. There are three different poll threads today with three different results, marist, zogby, and gallup. Very strange.

24. Intresting.
Some one recently posted a poll that showed Clark stacked up the worst against Bush. And of course all of the Clark Kluckers just KNEW that this poll had to have been faked. And then this one pops up less than a day later.

Amazing how these dubuse polls sudnly find credability when it spins what they want to here.

Vary intresting indeed.

17. Gallup I think consistently overstates Bush popularity
and your list of headlines is simply incredible. Gallup appears to be a branch of the GOP propaganda machine, despite their resepected name brand.

11. I no longer know what to believe in polls ...
Every single entity purchasing polls, publishing polls or relying on polls has their own axe to grind or, their own ox to gore.

Hard to say what is true and what isn't.

12. which candidate can best GOTV?
as well as work around traditional media?

Not everybody here feels it and many don't like Dean. To each his own. But people who refuse to see the effect he has on others are kidding themselves or in denial. The crowds, the meetups, the donations from small donors -- he inspires people who will work very hard for him.

Dean's ability to raise enough money to run a media campaign AND recruit enough people to run a grassroots campaign is very special and, IMO, gives him the best chance to beat bush.

15. because they poll at 3% or less
Statistically, that means they wouldn't do much better even one-on-one against the Chimp.

Sad, but the facts are the facts.

16. they poll at 3% or less against other democrats
that says nothing about what they would do against Bush. You'd expect them to not do as well as the others, but the numbers would still have some value.

Clark's HUGE favorability rating is surprising. Shows that even if the media won't cover him adequately, his message and his charisma is having an effect.

22. Bait and switch
"Throughout the 1990s, Dean’s cuts in state aid to education ($6 million), retirement funds for teachers and state employees ($7 million), health care ($4 million), welfare programs earmarked for the aged, blind and disabled ($2 million), Medicaid benefits ($1.2 million) and more, amounted to roughly $30 million. Dean claimed that the cuts were necessary because the state had no money and was burdened by a $60 million deficit.9

But during the same period, Dean found $7 million for a low-interest loan program for businesses, $30 million for a new prison in Springfield, VT, and he cut the income tax by 8 percent (equivalent to $30 million)–a move many in the legislature balked at because they didn’t feel comfortable "cutting taxes in a way that benefits the wealthiest taxpayers."10 By 2002, state investments in prisons increased by nearly 150 percent while investments in state colleges increased by only 7 percent.11

Indeed, Dean’s mix of "fiscal conservatism and social liberalism" seems to be not much different than Bush’s so-called compassionate conservatism, and certainly paralleled Clinton’s signature combination of liberal "I-feel-your-pain" rhetoric with neoliberal policies."

Is this the record he plans to run on? Ye Gods.

is only winning 50-47 against Clark who has barely started campaigning. Imagine once he gets the nod and votes arent watered down between 9 candidates. Clark should be our choice if you want to win. Its clear.
