Gephardt and Kerry do best:

Bush: 48%
Gephardt: 43%

5. It is the Marist College poll and here is how Dean does and a link
Bush 49% and Dean 41% so a 8-point edge for Bush vs. Dean.

6. In The Name Of Intellectual Honesty
a cursory review of all the polls suggests that Clark would do better against Bush than Dean...

Just my two cents for intellectual honesty...

9. How so?
You can call into question the integrity of the poll if you like. But to simplay say that "Clark should do better again Bush, so this poll must be flawed" is making a gross asumption that has no baring on the facts, one way, or the other.

On the other hand, this give wight to the argument of many that Clark is in fact Bush-light. And if so, they will vote for Bush nearly every time. Clark's campain is built on flash and thunder, and is no more real than smoke and mirrors.

While Dean is the real thing. No more Bush-lights and secrit closit neo-cons. Say no to Clark.

10. Geez, he/she said no such thing
"Clark should do better again Bush, so this poll must be flawed" - I did not infer this AT ALL from the post you replied to. No one can make a generic observation about Clark without getting burned on this board.

IMO they both have an excellent chance of beating Bush.

11. Are you kidding me?
Clark is Bush lite?

He's pro-choice, against the IWR, against the patriot act, for affirmative action, against the Bush tax cuts, for gay rights etc.

Dean is not the real thing. Dean getting the nomination is the GOP's dream come true. They will have such an easy time painting Dean as a far left wacko, his defeat will make McGovern's candidacy look like a complete victory.

You Deanies are so nearsighted, you don't fully understand the extent of the GOP propoganda machine.

Clark on the other hand is untouchable. Think about how stupid AWOL is going to look trying to paint a retired General as unamerican.

19. Go To
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 03:03 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
www.pollingreport.com and do a cursory review of ALL the polls....

I never said I believe Clark should do better than Bush and my belief makes it so... I just pointed to the fact that a majority of polls indicate that....

As a person trained in logic I am reluctant to go from the particular to the univeral or the universal to the particular....

You will see that a majority of the polls show Clark doing better against Bush than Dean...

But hey you deserve a cookie for the nice little piece of sophistry...

22. But how do you explain this?
This seems to be yet another poll that shows something like this:

"38% of registered voters definitely plan to vote to re-elect President Bush in 2004 and 44% definitely plan to vote against him."

Yet, when pitted against specific Democrats, Bush* wins? How is that possible?

I think the explanation is really fairly simple, and it has to do with the astonishing large number of Americans who can't even name the Democratic candidates: At this point, I think the "Bush* vs. (specific Democrat)" polls amount to nothing more than name-recognition responses.

But that will certainly change.

27. The Pollsters At Marist Are Credible Pollsters
but they are not infallible....

Since most of the other polls contradict this poll a reasonable person would take it's findings with a grain of salt...

The operative word is "reaonable" as opposed to partisan....

21. OMFG You guys check this poll out from marist...
JOB PERFORMANCE.
53% of registered voters nationwide approve of the job President Bush is doing in office. This represents a 17% decrease in President Bush’s approval rating since April of this year.

HANDLING THE SITUATION IN IRAQ.
The most dramatic shift has occurred in voters’ perceptions of President Bush’s handling of the situation in Iraq. 48% of registered voters approve of the job President Bush is doing there, a drop of 28%
since last April.

DEMOCRATIC FIELD FOR 2004 IS WIDE OPEN

UP FOR GRABS.
32% of Democratic voters nationwide are undecided about whom to support for their party’s nomination for president in 2004. Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean has made the largest gains since last spring.
