Soros’s comment that the “New Israel” on steroids and AWOL’s rabidly pro-Israeli stance as well as *’s irrational aggression in the middle east have lead to increased anti-Semitism worldwide. That observation naturally was met with outrage by pro-aggressive Israeli lobbies. Those who condemned Soros’s comments claimed that he was blaming the victim of anti-Semitism, which is shameful.
Soros was born Jewish, I don’t know a thing about how he practices, but he understands anti-Semitism well. In general IMO it is poor practice to blame the victim, and in this case it may be improper also. The problem is that the issue of anti-Semitism muddies the water; anti-Semitism is irrational, contempt for what is going on in modern Israel and any chance for peace is rational.
How could Soros make this distinction while still recognizing that many, many people don’t distinguish between the Israeli government and Jews? It seems that bigots automatically translate horrific “pro” Israeli policies as a reason to have contempt for Jews. In a certain respect it is the reverse of the “high tech lynching” trick used to intimidate the Democrats into confirming Thomas, it isn’t working for confirmation of judges again, but it worked once.
What do you think?

There is a world of difference between contempt for what is happening in Israel and US policy regarding Israel and anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is irrational, thoughtful contempt for despicable policy regardless of its origin is rational.
The problem is that since many people are irrational and Israel has horrific policy which is supported by the US the issue between policy and emotion is blurred by the bigots. I get it they don’t.
If the US supported a foreign government where bigotry was not an issue then the issue would be clear-cut. The problem confronted here is that the truth can be confused with the irrational hatred that idiots carry.

2. This is going to happen until we have more liberals |

in the punditocracy and until the jewish and non jewish pro-peace groups are just as committed to peace as aipac is to war, that means they put their money into a lobby. Ofcoarse public financing of campaigns would help but that is the answer to about 90% of America's problem.
