10. Well, crap. I'm actually disappointed. This win is too big
to mean that race wasn't a factor.

I was hoping for Blanco 52-48.

23. Bigotry in Louisiana is patriotic.
It is a strange turn of events indeed that it worked to our favor this time. You’re right that it is an empty victory in a way.

55. Exactly
That's what I meant by mixed blessing in other thread. Jindal got his solid 22-24 % in North La in primary Blanco did very poorly there. Single digits. Hence, the *possibility* that there are *some* consevos who could not bring themselves to vote for him. And like you, hate to see the win come from that. My fear is this is the old silent majority speaking. Hell, she had fallen out of MOE week before last week, crept back in and things were fairly even late this week, nothing showing her beyond MOE like this.

Having said that, I think things may well tighten. Baton Rouge will likely be very tight. Some black vote siphoned off in N.O. from Mayor Nagin endorsement. And we're not sure what proportion of the rural vote thay are mentioning as being in is from Blanco's stronghold of SW LA

BTW, from N LA living in south, and not meaning to paint w/ too broad a brush up top; but after all it is conservative voters up north I'm talking about.

As I typed, tightening occured. 48% in, now 52/48 Blanco.

Home parish of Lafayette reporting. 56/44 in parish w/ 25% of parish in.

103. Really good point.
I worked for antoher Dem candidate in open primary and the complexities of the race's dynamic--gender, religous right, race, N vs S, Catholicism (and abortion rights in Blanco's stronghold)--were incredibly throny.

Anyways, good insight.

13. What is the BESE? Where are districts 1, 2, and 6?
Districts 1 and 2 are not reporting anything yet, but district 6 has returns posting (although only about 60,000 votes in total). This could give us an idea of which precincts are reporting, and which ones aren't yet.

Anyone know?

Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 09:49 PM by jchild
And when did that become your or DU's decision. Look, I am not going to start, and you shouldn't either, but just for your info,

Except for Gov and Lt. Gov in Mississippi, many of the other STatewide officials who were elected were Dems, AND we kept a majority Democratic legislature.

There's no reason to even consider writing off the south. Believe me, national candidates haven't.

70. Crap, doens't anybody stream audio or video in LA?
I've checked WWL, DSU and BRZ and so far, no joy.

I'd give anything to hear some local coverage, especially out of N'wawlins or Baton Rouge.

If anybody's got a pointer, I'd appreciate it.

85. Much tightening 51/49% w/ 69% in.
The conservos in N LA who couldn't vote for Jindal may win this for Blanco *if* she wins. As I said above, she was dropping out of the hunt, only got back into MOE this week and only had one poll I know of that showed her ahead, 51/49.

Much of Lafayette remains, but so does BR, NO, and Shreveport. I think that Shreveport may be the key. Large black vote and strong white conservo stronghold, both. Not very large--70% of state lives in bottom third--but it may be unexpected boon Blanco needs.

Keep 'em crossed. It ain't quite over, IMHO. I still nervous, at least.
