What parishes are left?

It looks like it may be tight, but things look good. Hallow victory though if it was racially motivated and the republican conservatives couldn't bring themselves to vote for the Indian.

67. I'm not getting any precinct information where...
...all I'm getting is breakdown by precinct will be available in a few hours.

I don't immediately see that the voting for or against Jindal would be racially motivated. Jindal has v. dark skin to look at but he is of Indian heritage, which is white as far as many people in Louisiana are concerned. One of the biggest active racists in the state is Sheriff Harry Lee of Jefferson Parish and he is of Chinese heritage.

Well, we'll see what happens.

108. Yes indeed. This will be interesting to watch the spin doctors
as they go to it tommorrow. Sex vs an ethnic. I would like to think that we won because we had the best candidate. LA always has interresting politics. Remember when the choice for governor was Edwards or Duke? For DUers who may not know, Edwards (D) was a crook and Duke (R) had been the top guy of the national KKK. I think it is an advancement for our nation that we had both a lady candidate and an Indian candidate for governor.

:bounce:

I used to live in New Orleans about 20 years ago, and then in Biloxi for a while. Cheers to you. :toast:

40. AP just had this article
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031116/ap_on_el_gu/louisiana_governor_8

Blanco was carrying Cajun country — her home turf — and early returns from New Orleans gave her a 2-to-1 margin. Jindal was running strongly in the heavily Republican New Orleans suburbs and in Baton Rouge.

LA and MS went Repub last time, if I remember correctly, in the National election.

MS STILL HAS A MAJORITY DEM SENATE, AND MANY STATEWIDE OFFICIALS ARE DEM! We lost a gov and lt gov, but we elected Dem officials in other capacities and we maintained our DEM majority in the legislature.

90. Advocate reports 151 of 300 precincts in in Baton Rouge
There's some change of local government that's 50/50 and probably boosting turn out in Baton Rouge.

Republican Jefferson Parish is 90% in.

62. Tightened again: 51/49 w/ 88% in (WBRZ abc affiliate in BR)
Of course the raw numbers of Blanco's lead (30,000) are now in her favor w/ fewer votes left to count, but that lead has shrunk. I'm still very nervous, but I thought I'd be disgusted by this point.

Keep 'em crossed....

In the competitive races, both Mitch Landrieu and Charlie Foti won in the primary. The only other statewide race tonight was for Insurance Commissioner, and the Democrat (Robert Wooley) has taken it in a walk.

88. FANTASTIC! A note to you nay-sayers
Don't buy into the GOP inviciniblity myth. It aims to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, but is now exposed as self-nullifying hogwash.

Bobby J. was a VERY STRONG candidate (let's be honest), and would probably have made a decent Gov. And he lost to a Democrat.

WE CAN ONLY BE STEAMROLLED IF WE CHOOSE TO.

A defeat is not an apocalypse. The wingnuts had their days in the wilderness; we are in ours, though they are not nearly as bad in terms of the power balance (but far worse when speaking of the ideology of those in power).
