I just debated a wingnut about overtime |
|
He said its better to work without overtime. That way he can work more hours. I said if they can afford to pay you a certain amount why is it they cant afford this amount when its overtime?
Am I wrong here? Someone not in an alternative world help me out here.

I can't believe that someone actually believes this. I sure don't know how to help.

2. Why would he want to work more hours for free? |
|
They're not going to raise his "salary" to be equivalent to overtime.
And all those people who used to get overtime will have lower incomes so they will have less to spend so they will buy less so the economy will go down, etc.

4. So he's trading something of value (work hours) for NOTHING? |
|
Sounds like he's too dumb to debate.
Someone's going to get the value of him working all those extra hours AND IT WON"T BE HIM!

Encourage the Wing-Nut. Let him thump the Bible and spread the word to his heart's content...until he takes a good look at his paycheck.
Then, and only then, will he listen....

6. Does he get overtime now? Tell him to give it up then if he thinks |
|
its such a bad idea.
Then maybe he can work 80 hours for 40 hrs of pay...what a dumbshit that person sounds like.
Once again we are regressing...maybe he favors company script and stores??

7. I'm not sure I'm following you. |
|
Or maybe him. Does he mean he'll work all the hours his employer wants at regular wage, not at time and a half for overtime?
If that's what he's saying, I suppose his reasoning is that the employer, if forced to pay overtime rates, will hire more people at the regular rate, and no one will get overtime, and he'd rather work additional hours at the regular rate of pay rather than get no additional hours at all (which he'd be willing to work so long as he's just paid his regular hourly wage). While I understand that reasoning (and I hope the rest of you followed me), he's nuts not to want overtime. In my opinion anyway.
