Howard Dean and Iraq this summer |
|
Suppose that Howard Dean is the Democratic nominee.
And suppose that this summer, free elections are held in Iraq.
What can Dean say about it?

There is no way that free elections could be held in Iraq in 2004, even using the rather loose definition of "free" the Bush administration would prefer. There is no talk of a free, general election of a government in the current media spin assault. All they are talking about is having local councils choose representatives to an interim government which would then undertake the job of setting up "free" elections sometime after the twelfth of never, or the US election, which ever came later.
This is yet ANOTHER Bush lie but this one won't float anymore than a Blackhawk helicopter with an rpg up the tail. The insurrection will grow as long as our troops are visibly present, even if we are "invited" to stay by the "independent" interim government.
Incidentally, if there are any freeps around here, I am absolutely against what is happening to our troops in Iraq as a result of the wrongheaded Bush policy. I just don't think it worth one of our soldiers lives to fulfill the masturbatory fantasies of a bunch of would be Rambo's in our government.
Let us have full and free elections in IRaq, and let the chips fall where they may. After all, the world is better off without Saddam, as the administration continues to claim. Certainly, any popular government chosen by the Iraqi people would be acceptable, right?
We did do all of this for them, didn't we?

3. Elections are useless without a power base to back them up |
|
Here's what he should do:
1) Wait until shortly thereafter, when the country degenerates into anarchy
2) Continue harping on the Bush administration's misguided policy
