Poll question: Who should be Vice President?
All right, for this poll, I don't want to count people currently running for president. I'm sure that many of them would make fantastic running mates, but for the purposes of this poll, let's just take them out of the mix.

3. I like Evan Bayh
He's young, handsome, charismatic, and would deliver Indiana (11 electoral votes) and help us A LOT in Ohio and possibly Kentucky and West Virginia.

11. The only problem would be that Bayh would also be running
for senator simultaneously (can he do that in Indiana?) If he couldn't, this would be a tough seat to hold, unless Rep. Baron Hill ran.

7. it depends...
If Dean get the nod then Clark.
If Clark gets the nod then Dean.

If Either gets the nod and either decline... then Landrieu.

10. Does anyone else think that Mary Landrieu is trying to position
herself for the VP slot. She was one of the first people to congratulate Kathleen Blanco tonight. Her recent success at the filibuster speech gave her loads of coverage. She'd be the complete antithesis against Cheney (and would clobber him in a debate). Landrieu could be the key to a presidential victory in 2004.

That said, I think any of the above Democrats could be good candidates in 2004.

12. I like Bill Richardson
Good guy. Plus he pulls in a swing state or two and a nice chunk of the latino vote.

Did I mention he's a good guy?

20. Richardson is having a tough time in his home state...
My real Mom and stepdad live outside Santa Fe and from them and what I read in the papers from out there, he's in some hot water over his policies and actions.

13. My concern with Mary Landrieu
The environment.

She has been such an ally of the oil industry and drilling in ANWR I just think that that could be an issue if she wants to work with the Democratic nominee. I know that she has to be fairly pro-oil to win in Louisiana, but it would be hard if the nominee is saying that we need a Democratic president to protect the environment and the vice presidential nominee is saying the opposite.

Also, ANWR is only a couple votes away from passage in the Senate. If the Senate elections in 2004 don't go very well then a 50-50 tie could develop. Can we depend on Landrie to vote against ANWR drilling? I don't think so.

:wtf:

She's nothing special. Or, at least, she WASN'T until tonight.

I'm confused here.

19. She's been on my radar screen ever since she 2002
When she defeated Bush (in the form of Suzie Terrell). She's a two-term senator from a swing state that just elected a Democratic governor. Her Senate seat will not be in jeopardy and she'll probably be able to bring Louisiana and Arkansas with her, not to mention that she'd be able to completely outdebate Dick Cheney and would basically be a strong candidate.

21. she kicked ass in the senate
there was some posts on her yesterday also. but today with the whole louisiana thing being the news, i'm sure she is on people's minds more. i like her very much myself, but i think she supports some limits on abortion rights. i personally think she herself doesn't support them but only does it because her state wants it.

23. there are those occassions when someone rises to the occasion
and Landrieu did it during the talk-a-thon. She sidestepped the usual politness in the Senate and went after Orrin Hatch, after a particuarily stupid diatribe on his part. She went on a 25 minute rip on the Republicans, most of it off the cuff and made at least 3 of us DU's reach for the kleenex. She was, there is no other way to put this... f*****g awesome...

I was really sad when Gore didn't go with him in 2000 (I was hoping Gore would pick either Feinstein, Graham, or Harkin).

26. Graham deserves it
he is leaving politics and should go out strong with an honorable but symbolic position like VP. He also has the experience and Southern vote.

Clark/Graham = landslide Democratic win?

He was my choice for VP until the General entered the race. I wanted a Dean/Graham ticket. Now? Clark/Dean or Dean Clark.

30. My gut feeling says
Clark will be the VP. Graham would be a fantastic choice, but I'm afraid his age will keep that from happening. He will be 68 next year and you need someone who can continue on 8 years in the future. It is a sad commentary that his was the first campaign to fold, he has great credentials and a lot to say. He is quite a bit more moderate than I, but he could have added much to the debate.
