Should Dems go into this election without mentioning 9/11? |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 07:50 AM by La_Serpiente
Here is my concern. Although the entire nation is pissed at Bush, we Democrats have not gone into this primary season without mentioning 9/11. Now, I think we at this message board are "more" cogizant of the actions of Bush and how they have hurt us. However, the everyday American that is not on top of politics might buy into whole "Patriotism, 9/11" thing and Bush will say "blame the loss of jobs on 9/11. Blame the power outage on 9/11. Blame the deficit on 9/11." Do you see what I am saying? He will say that all of our problems are not a result of himself but a result of 9/11.
I think 9/11 caused some things, but I firmly feel that a majority of the problems in America are caused by Bush. I am not sure how to frame the message, but I just think that it should be mentioned so that it won't have that much of a power punch. Right now, there is pretty much a thought vaccumm in America and they don't really have a reason "how" to justify 9/11. We have not filled that hole and Bush will get the opportunity to later.

1. Sure we need to mention it. |
|
We need to mention it in the context of pointing-out how Bush uses the deaths of 3000 Americans for partisan political gain. That's how I'd love to see 9/11 mentioned, but none of the candidates has had the guts to say such a thing aloud.
I can imagine the commercial now: A character like Bush is at a press conference, and the media is asking him tough questions about all of the things that have gone wrongduring his time as "leader." But the pResident character only has the same robotic two-word answer for each question: "9-11.. 9-11.. 9-11.."

3. We will not be able to avoid it |

Their convention is near "Ground Zero". This was not an accident. Although it may seem like one once the protesters are through with them.

4. Good Morning from Arizona....9-11 yes.... |
|
I'd like to see a democrat commercial using little man bushie reading the goat story while 3000 Americans were being killed.
The guy is so arrogant and evil in that tv showing. Of course, dickless dick was running the country, shooting down American airplaines.

6. We need only to ask why. |
|
Why has this administration obstructed a completely public investigation? Why did Bush sit in the classroom for 20 minutes after the 2nd crash? Why did he run "from harm's way"? Why did he state, "I saw the 1st plane hit the WTC?"
I don't know how he can avoid these questions when the campaign begins for real. He won't be able to pick and choose the questions that he can answer.

7. That's why Kerry has Gary Hart and Rand Beers on his team to make a case |
|
against Bush on pre9-11, post 9-11 and national security. Max Cleland also lends his perspective from the 9-11 commission.

8. Of course it needs mentioning |
|
The democrats will gain much mileage from the economy and the poor domestic policies of Bush and company but 9/11 is the single most important issue, the one which Bush will rise or fall on.
He has NOT made this nation safer since then, he has NOT uncovered and arrested those responsible for it, he has NOT made good on his promise to "get Osama no matter what" in fact he has now trivialised the need to get him at all. Bush has NOT lessened our peril from terrorists, his every decision has inflamed them, helped them recruit and by attacking Iraq, a nation with no provable link to those responsible for 9/11, he has rid Iraq of an enemy of AlQaeda and, at the same time, enabled terorism to prosper within Iraqi borders.

on MTP today. Bush likes to take credit but not reponsibility. Clark reminded us of the truth of Truman's "the buck stops here." The American people deserve, indeed expect, their president to take some reponsibility. Clark has it right idea: hold the president accountable.
