NY Daily News: Frist/FAUX NEWS memo re: start of filibuster

Stagey like a Fox

When it comes to political stagecraft, no one can get GOP senators to hit their marks like Fox News anchor Brit Hume.

Democrats were tittering this week over an E-mail sent Wednesday by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's office to Republican senators about their marathon debate over judicial nominations.

"FOX News Channel is really excited about this marathon and Brit Hume at 6 would love to open with all our 51 Senators walking onto the floor," read the E-mail, which originated in the Senate Republican Committee. "The producer wants to know, will we walk in exactly at 6:02 when the show starts so they get it live to open Brit Hume's show?"

Frist's counsel, Manuel Miranda, says the E-mail reflects no special relationship with Fox and that Frist's office was also coordinating with other media outlets.

A Fox News rep said the E-mail "was the work of an overzealous press secretary."

In the end, Roger Ailes and company weren't quite up to the choreographic standard of Busby Berkeley: The senatorial chorus line missed its cue, and Hume had to open with footage of the cots being delivered for the GOP's big slumber party.

Could not have done it better.

Pathetic. Hang down your head, Hume.
