Air Force 2nd Test Of `Mother Of All Bombs'

Published: Nov 16, 2003

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE - People in the western Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama may hear a loud boom and see a column of smoke Tuesday from another test of the ``Mother of All Bombs,'' Air Force officials said Friday.
The second test of MOAB, officially the Massive Ordnance Air Blast but nicknamed otherwise, is planned between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. CST, if the weather cooperates.

Rain is in the forecast for early this week and that may postpone the test, probably until the next clear day, said Eglin spokesman Jake Swinson

..more at article....

even I would have a hard time connecting this with Bush's trip to UK..........

1. What on Earth is the purpose of the MOAB?
I mean, seriously...what job does it do that a smaller conventional bomb could not do, probably with considerably less collateral damage?

I still think it exists so that if the B*shies go even more batshit than they already are and whip out a tacnuke or three on Iraqnam, they can say "Oh no, no, that was just a MOAB. Go back to watching Joe Millionaire." :tinfoilhat:

2. Its politics
Its all done to gain more support.

This way, your average white trash, redneck, drunk, wife-battering, child abusing, racist Republican voter can watch TV and feel very proud about how we have the Mother of All Bombs, and think to himself what a badass Bush is.

6. Would he have used them anyway?
I seem to recall reading once that Custer refused to take gatling guns (an early machine gun) along because he didn't want to be burdened with transporting them and didn't feel he'd need them. I'm not sure if it would have made a difference anyway in the particular circumstances in which he ended up finding himself.

7. In Viet Nam the Daisy Cutter were use to clear LZs
and that was needed. But just to "scare people" ... .. .

8. Will they interview the bomb first again?
Last time, we got to know MOAB so well before they dropped it, it would be a shame for this one to simply explode anonymously...

9. They've gotten pretty desperate...my guess is the MOAB will be used...
...to kill or incapacitate large numbers of people in areas where the insurgents are supposed to be "hiding out".

That spells "urban renewal" on a massive new scale, and the winning of still more hearts and minds.
