Florida closing doors to consumer complaints, just another outrage.

SNIP..."The state's ``complaint clearinghouse'' is no more. That means many Floridians have no governmental agency to turn to for help with a consumer problem.
Budget cuts eliminated seven positions with the Division of Consumer Services, the agency that handled consumer complaints about nonregulated industries.

``This was an area that, for whatever reason, was deemed less important than some other areas, such as maybe terrorism and things like that, that needed more funding than funding the positions we had,'' said J.R. Kelly, director of the Division of Consumer Services.

The department regulates business opportunities, charities, dance studios, game promotions/sweepstakes, health studios, intrastate moving companies, auto repair shops, Florida's do-not-call list, pawnshops, travel sales and telemarketing. In fiscal 2002-03, the division handled 43,915 complaints - 27,649 involving nonregulated industries, Kelly said..."END SNIP

Our county used to have a wonderful consumer service. The fellow who set it up was greatly admired, and much disliked by industry here. The state just was not forthcoming with information that he was supposed to get, and he closed down. His wife had been ill, and he said it was her death that caused the shutdown. However, I know he was just too passionate to let go that easily. I think they would not give him access to complaints as they should have at a state level.

I don't think our county has anything now.

1. I weep for you having to put up with Jeb Bush as
Governor. I guess we are going to have to put up with Ahnold here in California. Maybe we should weep together.

2. Consumer advocacy agencies, and the like...

are only obstacles to the glorious riches the free market produces for us all. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Repeat that five times a day and you may con yourself into believing it's true.

4. This means WE, THE PEOPLE must.
It's only going to get worse. Especially if republicans don't lose their power.

What else is there to say?

Welcome to The New Order.

Simply awful. It has to be pure torture living in a state governed by Jeb Bush.

6. How to save money
Commute jail sentences of all non-violent drug offenders. Prison costs go down. Problem solved. This is not rocket science.
