This Democrat has Fallen in Love With John Edwards
The big Dawg told us that one of the differences between Dems and Repugs is that Dems want to fall in love with their candidate and the Repugs just fall in line.

Since I plan to vote Democrat no matter who wins the primary, I have really been trying NOT to fall in love. I have been studying the candidates and trying to learn who they are, while all along, holding onto my heart.

But my plan did not work. This dem has determined that John Edwards is the ONE. I believe he has strong electability, a good plan, and appears to be squeeky clean (our candidate MUST be squeeky clean because the RW is gonna come after him with everything they have got.)

As I have stated before...my main concern is to rid us of Bush. I will vote for any Democrat, but I am hoping the candidate will be Edwards.

1. Getting him the nomination will be harder than
his beating bush. I still suspect the DNC/DLC will install their favorite, just as in 1984 with Mondale. Not sure yet which that will be this time, but I doubt it's Edwards; he would be 'catching on' by now if the fix were in.

It *might* be Clark. Used to think it was Kerry, not sure now.

3. I suspect you believe the conpiracy theories put out by the Dean campaign
Because every serious candidate is affiliated to both groups and anyone with any real understanding of what those groups are will realize that they aren't hemogogenious beauracracies that can select candidates for national office, and as much as the Dean campaign wants you to believe, neither organization is trying to stop him, just because alot of democrats are.

9. that poster believes the conspiracy theories that Dean's staff have
exploited, that Dean is under attack from the DLC and the DNC, and extrapolating that it has to do with corporate america etc.

This is all BS, particularly because Dean alot more big bussiness appeasing than other candidates like Edwards and Gephardt.

They use it as a tactic to brush off the mountainess fear that most veteran democratic party rank and file have with the prospect another likly landslide loser, which Dean is, getting the nomination over stronger candidates

11. Am I "that poster"???
Did you not read my response to your first post?? I know nothing of what Dean's staff says.

And BTW, I certainly do not think Dean is a loser. He is one of the three Dems I think can win.

16. If the other candidates are stronger,
why are they losing so miserably?

7. Hardly. I saw the results of party machines,
years before I ever heard of Dr Dean. This is, after all, the way it USED to be done: the smoke filled rooms, etc., were real not a fantasy from some political writer. Nowadays it's more subtle, an application of soft money in the proper locations, or other non-monetary advantages bestowed on the 'pick'.

How else did Mondale *suddenly* catch fire against Gary Hart in 1984 (BEFORE the Donna Rice affair)?? Coincidental that Tip O'Neal had just made a huge public show of endorsing Mondale?? How did Carter beat Teddy Kennedy in 1980 for the nomination, and then lose so miserably to Reagan?

Above all, how did Junior beat John McCain for the repuke nom in 2000???? The fact that he was even taken seriously at all, testifies that machines exist.

8. The Dean CAMPAIGN has nothing to do with any of those
assessments.

You can disagree with those who float them all you want, please don't smear the campaign with a blatant lie like that.

5. He's not my #1 choice
but anybody can tell Edwards is a VERY intelligent, thoughtful guy, and he has crystallized a lot of issues in the most eloquent way I've ever heard from any candidate.

No matter what happens to him this election cycle, I think he definitely has a bright future, and he's definitely worth watching out for.

13. Edwards has a role to play in this election
Since I believe this it's either Dean or Kerry that will be getting the nomination, Edwards will be the running mate.
Edwards comes off to me as very warm and honest, and he will resonate with voters.

14. Edwards rocked the house last night, and is always great at the debates.
His town hall meetings are a joy to watch. He gets better and better, stronger and stronger every day. Don't count him out.

17. Question for mourningdove92
And I'm not candidate bashing.
This is a sincere question.

How do you feel about the fact that Edwards voted
*for* the Iraq invasion (along with a lot of other
Dems; I keep a list of names on my PC)?

I personally can't, actually won't, get past that.
It's sort of a show-stopper with regards to me
supporting Edwards. I was wondering if it bothers you too.

20. Myra, your question is a fair one.
I wish that he and a lot of other Democrats had not given Bush what he wanted. Even Hillary voted for it. Does it bother me? Yes. However, I do not expect any candidate to be 100% perfect. If I allowed that one issue to make my decision for me, my choices would be severely limited. Not that I have anything against Dean or Kucinich, and would gladly vote for either one, I still prefer John Edwards. Given the climate at the time of the vote, I can almost understand.
So, to give a direct answer to your question, Yes, it bothers me, but not enough to make me not vote for him.

33. Thanks mourningdove92
Definitely, none of them are perfect.
I do have issues with every single one.

And yeah, I have the same problem with Hillary
that I do with Senator Edwards - the vote.
I also have that problem with my senators in WA...

I'm certain the hand up his ass belonged to the same guy who manipulates the Bush puppet.

whoever it is doesn't seem to have much control of anything else or he would be doing a little better in the polls.

I didn't like what he was saying on Meet the Press. I was astounded that he and Tim were in complete agreement most of the time. Perhaps it was "strategery", but it sure doesn't work to pander to the right-wing when the primaries are not over.

22. I was at the JJ dinner at Iowa, and I ran into Edwards
outside his hotel.

He took the time to talk to me, even though it was late and cold and he was tired. He's a great guy and it's a shame his campaign hasn't caught traction. If I were president, he'd be my AG in a second.
