Are there affirmative action requirements for draft boards? |
|
I shudder to think of an all white draft board in a major city that is majority-minority. Come to think of it, there should also be affirmative action requirements for draft boards on the basis of class AND race. The ideal draft board would reflect the community it serves, seeing as how it will literally have the power to make life or death decisions for people in their community. I hope the SSS has affirmative action guidelines and abides by them. If we have draft boards made up of all white and wealthy people sending working class, black and Hispanic people off to war we will have just become a Third World Nation.

1. I know the military is one of the strongest proponents |

of affirmative action. However, although there are a lot of minorities in the military, there still needs to be some diversity in the top ranks. Most of the minorities are in the lower ranks.
For the draft boards? The better have affirmative action programs.

2. That's true for most branches, but I understand that |
|
the Air Force is still way behind in diversity efforts.

but do you honestly believe that any draft imposed today would be done fairly? I am still ticked at Charlie Wrangle(sp) for bringing this draft issue up. The ones drafted will be the poor and the minorities regardless of who sits on the board.
